I hve PNY 4 gb abd have stored lot of pictures but i could not

I had the same problem once upon a time with a PNY CF card about 4years ago after I photographed an entire football game for an article Iwas doing. Everything I did kept telling me that the card was corruptedand I never could retrieve the photos. Someone told me to use a better card so I have never used a PNY cardagain and consequently have never had the problem again. Stay with SanDisk Extreme or whatever high end card you can find and you'll be much happier.

I know this is the "Close-the-barn-door" approach to not losing thehorses after they have already escaped but I have a possible solutionto rescuing your photos trapped on the card if nothing else works. Lookfor a card retrieval program on the internet. There are free ones andthere are pay ones. Free is worth nothing and the others are worth morebut start with free if you can find one. The one I used was atcardrecovery.com (which wasn't free) and supposedly can even pull photosfrom damaged cards as well. I accidentally formatted a card beforegetting the photos off and the program retrieved all of those plus manyothers that were previuosly on it, all 39,000 of them, and it was onlya 4 GB card on a 8 MB camera! I think it was around $60 for the pay version but it justdepends on how valuable your photos are to you on that card. If yourinterested here's the link:

http://www.cardrecovery.com/?rid=google&kid=cr0102

There is a free trial download offered but I don't know how many photos you have on the card so it may not get them all off.

GoodLuck-Steve A.

Pny 2gb not recognized by windows vista

Try connecting it some other computers.
If it does not work at all, spend $8 to replace it.
If it does work, then it's either the "hardware" on your computer, or the Vista "software" (wrong/missing USB device-drivers).

How do i use my pny 2 gb chip?

You plug it into a USB port on your computer. It should be plug and play, meaning it just works, unless it came with extra software you need to run, but I doubt that. Once it is plugged into your computer, a window may pop up asking how you want to use it, or you can open My Computer, and it should be listed there. Double click on the name of it and it opens in a new window. You can now drag and drop files into and out of it. Also, if you are downloading files from the Internet, you can specify to save the files in this location and they go straight onto your pny. Once the file is saved onto it, you can remove it from the computer and take it with you to keep your files close, or use to to transfer files between computers. You may need to use a method of removing it from the computer that prevents damage to the data on it. This process involves clicking on a small icon in the system tray (by the clock in the bottom right hand corner) that looks like a green lower case "t" that says safely remove hardware. Click on this and then click on safely remove my "pny drive" and in a second you should get a message that says you may now safely remove your device. Unplug it and you are done!

I want to "lock" the flash drive with a password.

Encrypt Individual Files and Folders on a Flash Drive
  1. Step 1 Choose "Tools" from the menu bar at the top of the program, such as Microsoft Wordmag-glass_10x10.gif, and pick "Options."
  2. Step 2 Select "Security" from the many tabs displayed in the new popup window. Create a password in the "Password to Open" or "Password to Modify" section and click "OK" at the bottom of the box.
  3. Step 3 Confirm your password when prompted. Drag the password protected files to your flash drive. To open a protected file, enter password when prompted. Remember, passwords are case sensitive.
  4. Encrypt Entire Flash Drive
  5. Step 1 Download and install the freeware program "Cryptainer LE" onto your PC or laptop. Enter a meaningful password from 8 to 100 characters and define the file location and size, which you can change at a later time. Enter your password when prompted.
  6. Step 2 Install Cryptainer Mobile when the Cryptainer LE installation is complete. Select "Tools" on the menu bar at the top of your screen. Select "Install Cryptainer Mobile" and follow the prompts. The Mobile version comes with the LE download.
  7. Step 3 Close the LE version on your desktop. Select a location and meaningful password for the Mobile version. To protect important files and folders, drag and drop them into the vault, the location of the encrypted files.

Flash drive write protect. How do I remove the

small sd cards have a small slider in the care itself. Flash drives may have partitions on the drive itself. One or two of these small partitions may have write protection on them that cannot be removed. If you have too much trouble, put the flash drive in a usb slot, wait for it to be recognized. Open the control panel and open administrative tools. Click on computer management and then in the left lower pane, click disc management. In the right pane, there will be a window that shows and lists all the drives and partitions. Look for your flash drive and you can delete volumes, partition the drive etc.

Drive wil not allow coping with 1.8 GB open

Not sure why it won't copy anything to the drive, but you can try formatting it and then copying to it once the format is finished.

Plug the device in, then open "My Computer" and right click on the drive letter that is assigned to the flash drive, then click "format" and leave all the options alone.

A quick format should be all that's necessary. If this doesn't work, I'll have to let another Expert take over.

I bought one pny pen drive of 2 GB after 4-5

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health
