Hi, I'm using a Belkin

if the wireless light is lit up in red it says "someone is trying to connect to your network using wrong password"
Sometimes if any of your devices are not compatible with the security enabled in the router then the light will lit up in red. click here to know more about security types of belkin router
routers has to be turned off atleast 2 hours per day for it to work properly... so better turn off the router when not in use, this will clear the routing table of your router and will make the router to work as a fresh router everyday, so you wont face any speed problems.

My belkin n series keeps losing internet

I would suggest taking a look at your modem LEDs. What happens exactly when you lose connection? A look at the LEDs should give you some thought as what might be causing this. You can also try resetting your Belkin to default factory settings by pressing the Reset button at the back for 30 seconds, and then putting back your Belkin settings.

A Belkin router doesn't usually force the utilities page on you. I would advise checking your start page - you might have set it to your router's homepage by accident.

My belkin N1 router when

You will need to double-check your security settings. Apparently, the modem is trying to tell you there's a problem regarding this.
The easiest way to be able to access the router settings in this case, will be to provide a direct connection between your PC and the Belkin router (using a network cable) and then type in that address.
If the address still doesn't work, double check the router's IP address by opening the Command Prompt (it's under Programs -> Accessories) and typing in "ipconfig", then hitting Enter. The IP-address you're looking for is listed under "default gateway".

(Also, make sure your computer isn't using a fixed IP, set it up so it's dynamically assigned an address by the Belkin router.)

My wireless router only worrks when you are right

Strange, as these modems tend to have a pretty decent wireless signal strength. Try changing the channel your modem broadcasts on. If you surf to 192.168.1.1 you'll be able to visit the modem interface, where you can change this setting.

In this case, it's best to reset your modem to the factory default settings and start off with a clean slate. You can do this reset by pushing the little hole saying Reset at the back for about half a minute. You'll need a pen or a toothpick, or something of a similar size for this.

What's the difference between WEP and WPA? What

WEP is a weak securtiy protocol that is outdated and can be easily broken

WPA is a newer security protocol that is much harder to break with AES encryption

WPA is always recommended mode for operation over WEP.

Use WPA2 which is latest version if it is supported by device.

Hi, my Belkin N Wireless router works in some way

You may need to change settings in your router to enable your online games to work. Some games need to use specific ports; these ports may be closed due to the router's firewall. Please refer to your game's documentation for the ports required.

Use the following answer to configure these ports in your router.

In order to configure this, you need to know:

- The IP address of the computer or device to have the port forwarded to.

- The port numbers to be used and whether these are TCP or UDP ports

(Note: We recommend you use a computer that has a wired connection to the router.)

Setup steps:

  1. Open a Web Browser on the computer. Type in http://192.168.2.1
  2. In the address bar of the Web Browser type Click Login in the upper right hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click submit.

  1. Click on Virtual Servers under Firewall in the menu on the left

    • Type a general description of the application i.e.. Remote Desktop
    • Type the port(s) specified by the program manufacture for both of the Inbound port fields
    • Select TCP, UDP, or BOTH for the Type.
    • Private IP address: Enter the IP address of the computer you want grant access too.
    • Type the port(s) specified by the program manufacture for both of the Private port fields.

My router does not show

Your computer cannot detect the Belkin if the wireless card in the computer has not been configured with the Belkin wireless settings.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer/laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.
