Where can I sell vinyl records?

Don't expect to get much for them unless they are very rare editions in almost unplayed shape. You can try selling them on EBAY, go to swap markets or flea markets or antique dealers who deal in old radios and record players, or look in your area for used record stores (there are a few still around). Try VinylHunt com Hooking you up with independent record shops since 2006 Find... or Record Stores

How many grooves are on a typical 45 rpm record?

The question could be answered easily if records had a fixed groove pitch. However, they use a variable pitch so that loud passages do not overcut into softer passages. According to the RIAA Bulletin No.E4 of 1963, a 7" 45 r.p.m. record should have between 16 to 32 grooves-per-inch.

Wurlitzer 1015

It will require a phono preamp...designed for a magnetic phone cartridge that takes into account the RIAA rolloff so you don't lose bass response. A mic preamp won't work properly.

Bad sound quality

You cannot connect the turntable via a microphone port. You need to connect via a USB port. If you have not got a USB port to connect it as the others are in use, you can buy an extension USB socket which, will allow you to put more devices via one USB port.

Just switched my needle on an ION Profile LP but no sound will come out of my speakers.

Disconect the wires to the cartridge. With the amp on touch each wire one at a time with your finger. You should hear on Two wires a buzz- one for each channel. If you do then the cartridge has failed. If you don't then there's either a bad connection to your amp, or the magnetic cartridge pre-amp inside the amp has failed. This will not effect any other part of the amp.

Got record and it is

Hi, maybe the record is worn and that's why the sound is low. By using third party audio editing software (i.e. cool edit [paid] or audacity [free]) you can improve quality and volume of digital sound.

No sound through my speakers

First check that the Ion is attachedto the computer with the USB cable if the computer doesn't see the Ion in theprevious step. Turn the computer and Ion off, and reboot them both. Try to seethe Ion again. Access the menu item within Windows and confirmthe settings are correct if there's no sound. The Ion doesn't have speakers, sorelies on audio cards and speakers on the computer. From the "Start"button go to the "Control Panel" and open the "Sounds &Audio Devices" area. Make sure the audio input is set to the Ion and audiois output to the sound card. A general error is having the audio input andoutput set incorrectly.

Hi. i bought the ion

Hello Hans,

This is a plug-and-play USB device so you don't need to install any drivers. Assuming the Software CD was included with the turntable and you've installed it, then you probably need to setup USB playback/recording by selecting the Ion Powerplay as the recording device in the Sound control panel and adjusting the volume/levels.

Open the Windows Control Panel, choose Hardware and Sound, then select Sound. Next, click on the Recording tab at the top of the sound control panel window and make sure the Ion Powerplay is selected as the current recording device. The selected device will have a green tick next to it.

Once you have selected the Ion Powerplay as your recording device, double-click on its icon (ringed in red above) or click it with your right mouse button and choose Properties from the pop-up menu to open the settings. Select the levels tab and adjust the microphone volume and/or boost. Also, make sure it's not set to mute, indicated by a red circle with a line through it on the speaker icon.

Finally, if this doesn't solve the problem, shut down and reboot. You shouldn't need to do this but sometimes it's necessary in Windows for no apparent reason.

This should be all you need to do. Try this then let me know if you need further assistance. You can reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

Regards,
BElectric

I just want some technical info. I understand how

A phono preamp feeding an amplifier is the basic answer. The USB part is irrelevant. Nowadays the preamp could be in the TT itself or in any upstream electronics.

Use search engines for research and learn some. For erxample...

The signal on LP is also severely changed both on recording (cutting) and proper playback. Look at RIAA equalization.

Not all of the sound/music is being transferred

I know this is an old post, an I dont' have a solution yet, but t seems the same problem as on my Ion USB recorder - One of the input channels is not working. Like you, I found one of my music tracks not plying right - there was only the instrumental and no vocal. When I experimented, and changed round the jacks on the cable coming from the turntable (red and white plugs), I then got only vocals and no instrumental. Obviously one of the input sockets on the USB recorder is no longer working (I already checked the turntable and cable itself by playing back he same track with both stereo channels through my amplifier). You can either get the item replaced if its still under guarantee, or fix it yourself, if you have the necessary skills, neither of which apply to me.

The needle seems too light on the record because

These are pretty cheap units as far as quality and workmanship go.
The ancient fix is to tape a dime to the arm just above the stylus (needle).
If a dime doesn't work, use a penny.
