This is a common problem for the 5-8 years old LG LCD TV, the problem is a defective main board, due to the new part dried out sources, the only way to do is to re-flow the soldering on the main board yourself by using your kitchen oven, this is the procedure: Re-Flow Soldering Procedure for LG Main Board

1.Pre-heat your kitchen oven to 385 degree (No more than 400 degree); 2.Put the main board on a card board (like a pizza box board) in the oven; 3.Heat it for 10 minutes (No more than 10 minutes); 4.Turn the oven off & leave the door open, at this moment, do not touch or move the board until it colds down to the room temperature. 5.Install the board in the TV & try it out.

This could be a fuse, but it was most likely a capacitor bursting. It should be fixable, but may require a new power supply board, depending on your repair shop's willingness to do component level repairs.

It can be the auto-contrast is doing its jobs so LG can claim that the TV has really high contrast ratio, also try turning off auto brightness feature off. It gets real bad when the scene has dark back ground such as the dark sky with stars, the TV will really dim down to give real black sky but at the same time you can barely see the stars on the screen, LG is not the only one with this design problem, VIZIO and other has the same problem as well. If you Google your model and search for review you may see that you are not the only one with this problem.
What is the exact model of this TV.

Or www.digikey.com, just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current and long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series. Please post back what you find.

your hd box might only output in 1080i. are you useing an hdmi cable? if not that might also be your problem.

This is the Power Board for it. check those 6 electrolytic Capacitors on the right for bulging or splitting. Don't buy it blindly, it's a guess. It can't be done. The DVD remote will be single frequency for that device only and the LG remote for that LG Blu Ray (or series) only. Companies don't make cross-control between makers easy. The only exception is cable and satellite boxes to allow their remote to also control the television.
