Put the memory card out(if it have), Now Go to Menu >> Settings > Reset > Reset All. If it ask the default code then it is 0000.
That will reset your phone to factory settings

It could be a sim problem or it could be a manufacturer problem or simply something in you message settings. I would take it to my service providers store because my daughter had a similar problem and the sim and the cell device completely fried and both were only about 2 hours old. I am really adamant about taking my cells to the service providers store when I have issues, mainly because replacement w/o warranty or extended warranty for a good phone is so expensive; therefore, I make use of all warranties while in effect.
