Microwave won't heat

In many brand (you didn't mention yours) these is a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

At
our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Some questions to help you or someone you know troubleshoot it:

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

If not, then you probably have a bad door switch or door switch mount and should see these files:

http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

If the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable are all coming on, then the problem is in the high voltage section, and then the next questions arise:

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

If there's no unusual noise, it may just be a bad connection at the magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for high voltage section test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it is NOT shorted or burned looking, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(continuity can be good even though mag is bad!)

For Kenmore models, you can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

BUT once you have the part number from the Sears site, you can often get the parts cheaper here.

Accessing some parts may require you to pull the oven from the wall and remove the cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have

two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

I'd recommend that your bookmark this link to your favorites.

Changed bulb in whirlpool microwave model mh1150xm

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too, as well as other functions.

When I start it a rattle is coming from the right

Could be either a defective fan or caused by an unshielded transformer which can produce a large magnetic field and cause sheet steel to vibrate. Press on the side from which the noise seems to emanate to see if you can dampen the vibration. If this seems to help, there may not be a solution. If it doesn't help, you may just have another defective Chinese made cooling fan.

When we push start the light comes on and the

The problem in this case sounds like it could be the door safety interlock switch not closing all the way. It may only be closing part-way, not allowing the magnetron tube to turn on. (The component, or transmitter, that creates the "heat" of the microwave.) The other problem may be the magnetron's fuse. Check and see if it isn't blown. Any other repairs beyond these may be dangerous and should be referred to a qualified technician or replacement of your microwave.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance in this matter. :)

No power to oven after removing light bulb

Hello,
What happend is that when the bulb broke the filiments touched (shorted out) and caused the reset switch on the unit to set>>>you need to find the reset button on this unit, look at your service manual. Additionally on some units there is a fused link internally, that may have blown>>>>both are an easy fix, so dont throw it out.

Good luck,

Plate will not move back and forward

That is either tuntable motor or turntable motor coupler, depending if the motor is working or not. If the turntable is stuck it is more likely the coupler located underneath the plate.

Oven does not heat and makes loud, continuous "hum" when turned on and related to turning of oven table.

est the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron. If all this are fine, test the control board.

Thediode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must bealloweddischarge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, evenifpower is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting theirtwocontacts.
Before replacing the magnetron test also the control board.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.
