Hi, it sounds like the element has a short in it. unplug the range, and take the element out and inspect if for burn marks. check the wires going to the element to make sure they have not shorted.

Hi yes it will just turn itself off so dont worry about it, it will take ages but it will switch itself off, when its finished dont try opening the door till its cooled right down as this has caused the lock to remain in the locked position for some strange reason, so just leave it to finish then let it cool right down before you try opening the door as you could have problems like many others.

The relay on the main control has stuck in a closed position (probally melted). The relay itself cannot be replaced the whole control must be replaced. They are easy to check and replace.
