The compressor is stopping on overload. There is either a weak breaker or an electrical problem causing the overload to open the circuit and stop the compressor. It has to be taken apart to determine what is or is not going on.
When compressor kicks in the
This appears to be a direct short internally to the compressor . you neede a ohm meter to test it .. not certain how old the unit is but if its a window unit and over 6 years old I would buy a new one. But it does no0t sound good. In the future when a unit trips the breaker and you reset it and it trips right away its best not to trip it again as it contaminate the inside of thye system and is very difficult to clean and expensive as well . those are my thoughts. It could be the outside fan but the way you decribe it tripping right away my money is on the compressor
AC was working perfect before we moved recently.
Depending on how is was placed (Upright, on it's back, or lying flat, as if it was installed) could be the problem. If it was not lying in the same position, as it would be installed, the refrigerant gas ran back into the inner reaches of the compressor and has not returned to where it needs to be.This is usually referenced in the Owners Manual, prior to it being installed the first time. It probably said something to the effect of "allow the unit to sit in the installed position for 8 hours prior to operation". This would allow the refrigerant gas to settle back into place, as well as the oil lubricant in the compressor.
M best advice (Hopefully it's not to late), is turn the unit off for at least 6 hours, to see if everything will settle back into place. If that doesn't solve the problem, you will need to have the compressor professionally recharged. As the existing refrigerant gas will have to be evacuated and captured, before recharging.
Hope this helped you.

Once a year you should take the unit out and spray the front and rear coils with coil cleaner and spray it with a water hose. The inside coil gets very dirty on the inside where its hard to see.(where the blower wheel is) The water splashing i condensation not draining to the rear of the unit. The usual problem is the unit not tilted toword the outside enough or the drain whole from the bottom of the front coil is plugged. This whole is only 1/4 inch its small does not take much to plug it. good luck hope this helps.

It sounds like your unit is low on freon or the compressor is not kicking in. If the compressor kicks in you can hear it turn the unit on fan only or turn the thermostat off then turn the unit to demand cool you should hear a hum even vibration when the unit kicks in. If there is no audible hum ect... your compressor is probably not kicking in. The selector switch the temp switch the capacitor for the compressor or the compressor its self could be bad. good luck if you need to know how to test any of the above let us know

Compressor is kicking in but isn't cooling
This problem is related to partial durty in the filter. you can't do that by your self. If you are a technician , :
1. recover the freon,
2. remove the filter;
3. replace by a new one;
4. vacuum the system;
5. charge the freon .
