lots of compressors make strange noises and run for years. I hate to suggest installing a hard start kit simply because I always wonder what we did before they came out with a hard start and machines lasted longer BUT, check amps on start up, amps while running, watch amps for a bit while it's running, install hard start kit. just like all mechanical equipment, it may last 5 weeks, it may last 5 years. There is no such process that I can find.

Air conditioning is all about the proper airflow across the condenser and evaporator coil (coil panel). Be sure your filters are clean and there are not any obstructions such as a dirty condenser coil. Also check all tubing and fitting connections for signs of oil which would indicate a refrigerant leak and has now caused the AC to be insufficiently charged.This would cause ice build-up on the evaporator (coil panel) and the out-put of only 70 degrees.

Not likely to be fixed for free under warranty because you caused the damage. But it can be fixed if the damage is not too severe. Will probably cost a couple of hundred bucks and may be cheaper to buy a new unit.

check fins in the condenser coils (the fins on the outside part) for obstructions or alot of bent fins. should be free and clear. but chances are the freon level is low. can be serviced, but may be cheaper to replace.

One thing to check is to make sure the evaporator and condenser coils are clean. Any dirt here will short ccle the compressor.

Not 100%certain to what styrofoam you are referring to but there is definitely styrofoam components inside the machine. The entire drain pan is made of styrofoam, I would not touch it.

Have you drained the water?

The blower wheel probably is dirty. The unit is sensing that not enough air is flowing across the AC coil.

Mine is doing the same but it's very moldy and dirty. It worked well when we used it for the first month when we moved into our Gma's house. She left the unit. It's old yes but it worked fine before. Why is this happening? I'm going to clean it, but I have NO IDEA HOW TO GET IT OUT OF ITS CASE! HELP

did you clean it with water? They don't mix. Use a hairdryer to dry thoroughly.
