I can't see your car but doubt the battery is the culprit and only slightly suspect the alternator.If it were my car I would plug in one of those cigarette lighter voltage monitors and watch it closely. It will tell you more than any mechanic can by examining the car while you are not having the problem.Your car's voltage should never go below 13 volts while the car is running, and as high as 14.8 volts shortly after you start it. It should also not be below 12 volts before you start the car and after you shut the engine off.If you notice the voltage is lower than 12 volts before you crank the starter, the battery is drained too much, and that could be because something is draining it. Suspects could be anything from an alarm circuit to the radio.However if when you start the car the voltage doesn't go up to somewhere around 14 volts, it may not be charging properly, and it sometimes when it's running it's voltage drops below 13 volts, then you know the charging circuit isn't working.If it sometimes goes over 15 volts while it's running, there may be a bad connection to the battery. I always remove and reconnect the battery connections whenever I suspect I have a battery problem, it's just so easy to do and often the problem.

There are several ways to get Visio for cheap. If you are a student, there are discounted versions available online and in stores. Also, you can check with your school for even cheaper options sometimes. Try the university bookstore if available. Or a Computer Science department maybe.
If you are working, and your company uses MS Office applications, find out if they have the "Microsoft at Home" program. You can get MS Office applications for really cheap that way. I can get Visio through my company's "Microsoft at Home" program for a few dollars.
