the top of the scanner unit is problem. actually this is the problem with the broken plastic part in which the gear is fixed. check whether the top scanner unit is moving when you switch on the printer

? Check the print cartridge to see if it has been disassembled or refilled.
? Inspect the print cartridge to see if toner is leaking through worn seals.
? Check the surface of the photosensitive drum in the cartridge to see if it has been damaged or
scratched. Touching the drum contaminates the photosensitive surface and can cause spotting
and image defects.
? Blurred areas on printed pages indicate that the photosensitive drum in the cartridge has been
overexposed to light. Because overexposure to light causes permanent damage to the photosensitive drum, the cartridge should be replaced.
To redistribute the toner in the print cartridge
Before installing a new print cartridge or when the toner begins to run low, redistribute the toner by
rotating the cartridge back and forth five or six times.

This issue is typically seen with long file names and certain web sites that will cause the issue when browsed. To alleviate this issue, ensure that you have the latest firmware for your printer which you can find at:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Hold down > and Cancel, and then turn on the device.
3. Release > and Cancel.
4. Select Language, and then press OK.

Turn off the power by using the power switch, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power and wait for the device to initialize. If a surge protector is being used, remove it. Plug the device directly into the wall socket. Use the power switch to turn the device on.

do check the settings of your printer, or you may press again the button of the printer.

reinstall your printer and scanner driver for your operating system (windows), if it is not there in disc, you can download it from HP.com, but if you system is Win7 64bit, there can be problem (can will not be driver for it), if it will be that , then you will need install another operating system, (it can be second),.

unplug and wait for about 10 minutes plug in again and see if error returns. you may post back for followup

first try printing the test page if its white open your printer and check whether your catridge or the toner is filled and not empty
