If any of the ink cartridges need to be replaced the printer will not work. Also, if you are printing only black you will need to go into print properties and select black.

buy a new one. there is no repair for print heads. and don't use refill inks. not good for print heads

My Brother printer MFC-465cn is doing the same thing. I have workaround / worked-around it by disabling bi-directional printing. Then print is clear. It's as if the head is shifting an irregular amount on the opposite direction, like the head is loose.

Same for copies. If I use the PC interface to make copies, I can set the copy printing to be mono-directional, then copies are clear.

Sometimes you have to open it and then close it again, firmly. You could also try hard resetting your printer. NO PDF

Select your OS and the language in the menus. Download the full software from the first link (at least on the Win7 drivers list) to use all of the features of your printer. If you download just the drivers, the buttons on the multi-function printer will not trigger any action by the computer. Again select your language.However, any third party software that was on the disc will not be available. (The OEM copy of PaperPort SE with OCR was on the CD for Windows systems.) You'll need the original disc or to replace the software with the full version if you use it. (You would need OmniPage to replace PaperPort SE with OCR. PaperPort and PaperPort Pro do not include OCR capabilities.) There are other programs that do this as well.I hope this helps. Error 49 relates to the print head drive voltage. It may just need the flat ribbon cables that connect the head to the main pcb reseating, but equally it may need the print head replacing (most likely).
An outside chance that the main pcb will need replacing.

In theory, all of these jobs are a task for an engineer. Brother UK (0870 830 400) can pass you on to a repair agent.

most ink jet printers are not made for any type of volume of more than a couple copies a day. my advise would be to donate this one and purchase a LASER jet printer. the cost to fix this is more than what it is worth.

Not sure what you mean by double printing. Is it printing a ghost of what you print further down the page. Or is it mis-aligning the characters so it appears to have a shadow on each character?

I just had the same problem. Turn the printer off and back on again. It will reset itself.

It sounds like it may actually be the "print head" which is what the carts fit into. These can and will go bad. Sometimes you can find replacements on ebay etc. But you need to make sure it is exactly the same part number. There could also be a number of other issues, the cart contacts could be dirty or damaged (another print head issue resolved by replacing), counterfeit cartridge, bad cart. These are the most common, but not the ONLY issues that can cause your problems. I'd check prices for replacement print head vs. new printer.

The code is within the ink cartridge itself. If it is not a main brand cartarage, you may have th esame problem with both . I would suggest buying a main brand one . heads can be cleaned with a tooth brush and alcohol. Dry well. www.brother-usa.com
