I'm not sure what you want to do, but you will find that you are going to be severely limited in what you can upgrade on the mainboard. This is because the mainboard was built specifically for HP/Compaq and as such the BIOS is not as generic as with an brand name mainboard that you can buy. Thus, you will find that you may have fewer CPU and RAM upgrade options. There is a good chance that you can probably expand the RAM capacity above 2GB. Remember though, that if you are only running a 32-bit Operating System, you will be limited to 3GB of accessible RAM regardless of the amount installed. Realistically, you probably won't be very happy with whatever performance gain(s) you can get for the money you will spend on this machine. That said, most newer HP/Compaq desktops utilize a fairly standard ATX case. This allows you the possibility to install a completely new mainboard/CPU/RAM to gain massive performace benefits for the money spent. You may even be able to continue to use the existing hard drive and CD/DVD drive if they are SATA rather than PATA interface.

You can try to update the BIOS - that used to correct the issue when I supported these a few years ago. Does it run loud in Safe Mode as well? If so, chances are the fan will require replacing. Regards, M

Could possibly be your power supply. unplug the computer and take out the ram and put them back in. If that doesn't work, get a new power supply.
