Seems like your MAC goes into sleep mode, when this happens, the computer does not supply power to the USB ports to save power. When the computer does this, there is a big change that will drain out the battery of the Reader. You can try this:

1. Connect the reader to the computer
2. Hit the reset button while is connected for 3 seconds (Reset is located at the bottom of the unit)
3. Leave the reader charging for about 40 minutes then disconnect the reader and check the battery meter
4. If you can see that the reader took some charge then leave it connected for 2 hours or until the redlight goes off

Hi!

If the Reader is frozen, you can try the following:

1. Disconnect the reader from the computer
2. Hit the reset button at the bottom of the reader for 3 seconds
3. Slide the power switch
4. Screen will blink and will show "Opening book"
5. Allow the reader to load and then see if operational

Note: If the reader get stuck again, connect it to the computer for 15-30 minutes and allow it to charge, make sure the red steady light comes on.

Hi,

Looks like the reader is missing charge, try this:

1. Connect the reader to the computer and make sure a red steady light comes on, if not, then hit the reset at the bottom of the reader for 3 seconds and check if the light comes on now

2. Leave the reader charging for 15-30 minutes

3. Disconnect the reader and see if operational now, if still frozen, try the reset again and slide the power switch.

Hi huffasia,

Looks like a charging problem, try this:

1. Connect the reader to the computer and make sure red steady light comes on, if not, then hit the reset button for 3 seconds.
2. Once you get the redlight, leave the reader charging for 15-30 minutes (make sure the computer does not go into sleep mode)
3. After you charge the reader, try the soft reset again and slide the power switch at the top of the unit.

If this does not resolve the problem you may try a hard reset on the reader but this will remove all content.

To hard reset:

1. Hit the reset on the bottom of the reader
2. Slide the power switch
3. Once "Opening Book" comes on the screen, press and hold the directional "down arrow" and the number "0" both at the same time until "Reset All" appears on the screen.
4. The screen will go blank, now its time to turn it on again.

Note: If after trying the hard reset, the reader goes back to the black arrows trying to turn around, then repeat the steps again.

Hi shianto,

Because of e-ink screen technology the reader will display last page even if the unit is not charges it may display "full". Try this:

1. Connect the reader to the PC and check if a redlight comes up
2. If there is no light, hit the reset at the bottom for 3 seconds, the light should come on now.
3. Leave the unit charging for about 15-30 minutes
4. Unplug the unit and see if its operational now, if not you can try the reset again and the slide the power switch

Hi marinaherman,

Probably the computer went into sleep mode while charging overnight. Try the follwing

1. Connect the reader to the computer
2. Make sure the redlight comes on
3. If the light does not come on, hit the reset while reader is connected to the computer
4. Leave the reader charging for about 15-30 minutes
5. Check if reader unfroze and check battery metter

3. Leave the reader charging for 15-20 minutes
4. Disconnect the reader and see if full operational now

Either call Sony >> and see if they can fix this problem. It may be an internal error. You may just need a new battery.

Or return to the store you bought it from >> Tell them about this, and they should replace the device no problem seeing as it is an internal error and not your fault.

Hi, I have the model before yours and I had a similar problem. Unfortunately the only way I fixed it was to unplug it and let the battery go dead. I realise that this can take an age to do as they have great battery life.

Okay Plug It In And Let The Red Light Turn Off By Itself Then Get A Tooth Pick Or Any Item That Will Go In The Reset Hole Then Pug it In Again. The Red Light Will Still Be On But After Five Minutes Unplug It Turn It On The Light Will Be Yellow Then Turn On .

I found some information about 'resetting' the device if it hangs on p.96:

Also, on p.98 it says that excessive moisture can affect the device adversely, and a waiting period of a few hours should be observed if exposed to high humidity.

Good luck on getting the PRS650 to work correctly, again.

it may take a certain battery like oprah had on her show check to see if it needs a battery or look it up on the web.
