MTX Thunder 8302 Car Audio Amplifier - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Subs going off the hook
your ground is the problem here, try moving your ground to a different spot or try double grounds
It turns on but my music wont come out
I had this same amp and the rca inputs went out. If i wiggled the rca plugs sound would come out but when i let it go the sound stopped so see if the rca inputs move at all because they are not suppose to
Feedback issues.
Did you run your power and remote wires the same route as your RCA cables? If you dont run the RCA cables on the opposite side of the power and remote you will get feedback through your speakers. I run my power on the side closest to the battery along with the remote ( passenger in my case) and the RCA cables should be on the opposite side( driver side). They say the power current will create a disturbance in the RCA cables that you would hear as feedback. Hopefully this will help you.
Tuning 8302 amp
The amount of power that youre going to run on those 5.25s might indicate that you need to turn the crossover to a higher cutoff frequency because they gonna want to kick pretty hard if your set too low - Sounds like you got it under control though flip it to high-pass(HP) and see how it does at around 100 HZ cutoff- be sure to turn off any bass boost on the amp though too- Let me know how them soundstream mids do- I have a set of subs that kick *** but i never have heard anything about their mids-good luck
Mtx ta7801 amp not working
Depending on where you live, Car Tunes is a good place to fix it but it might cost a good amount. I have a mtx 1501XD and the same problem, lights but no sound i saw no marks inside mine however. They told me i was better off buying a new one bc it was going to cost so much to fix most likely. That was coming from a guy I know so they were just trying to **** money out of me either, he does sound for a living.
Cant figure out my car audio problems!!!!!
There are a couple of tests you can perform. I'd first recommend checking the shield ground. You'll need an ohm meter. The details can be found on the following page.
RCA shield ground testYou can also test the output with the multimeter. Set the multimeter to AC volts. If it's not an auto-ranging meter, set it to a voltage range of ~2v AC. Disconnect the RCA cables from the head unit. Touch one meter probe to the outer ring of the head unit's RCA jack. Touch the other probe to the metal contact in the center of the RCA jack. With the head unit near full volume and a clean signal source, you should read at least one volt on musical peaks. If you have a bass disc or a test tone disc (~60hz sine wave), use those.

the remote of amp. is not a ground it is a pos.+ 12 vlts look the back of your car stereo red the remote and conect to remote of the amp. if no sign remote of the car stereo conect to the 12 vlts of your bat.
MTX 8302 sound just quit on front speakers
hi Dan....Have you had any other service or installs shortly prior to the onset of clipping? In any case, the 8302 has Onboard Thermal Protection which is kicking in due to excessive heat. If you've had this running fine for a period of time, by that I mean at least a month, then we need to focus on why you're suddenly overheating......please update your post with any further information and progress.....good luck my friend
Subs will go off the wall with bass, but not in tune with music.
hi, first disconnect the rca input, then switch on headunit and if the amp produces a constant bass thump it then means it has an internal fault. if the amp idles quietly then replace the rca cable, or try connecting the headunit lineout feed directly to the bass amp, in this way you cud find out if your fault is coming from the headunit or the equaliser. cheers
Sond gone
sounds like an internal problem. first disconnect all spks from amp, then switch on head unit and check if amp turns on (LED ON?) then feel the heatsink, if heatsink gets terribly hot then amp has internal fault. if amp doesnt get hot then try connecting a single working speaker to each channel separately, it may occur that one channel is faulty only. amps can shut down if the speaker/s is faulty as well, check all speakers and spk wires for shorts before taking amp in for repair. cheers
Amp only plays during low engine rpm
yes, the overvoltage...compounded by maybe an alternator that is also not operating within limits (Does your headlights or horn get brighter / louder?). look inside the amp for any adjustable device for OVER VOLTAGE THRESHOLD or similar and turn it slightly clockwise
Delay
10 to 20 minutes? that sounds like a internal problem in the amp.
I have never heard of a amp taking that long to start up, there is definatly a problem in the pre amp stage of the amplifier.
Amp has burned up
You'll need to replace all three transistors and any other in the same line (unless they're divided by high power diodes). Make sure you check all resistors before replacing anything. Search www.digikey.com for parts, they should have the exact transistors-just put the numbers on the transistors into the search field.
Amp not workign!
The way you were testing the amps is a common way that alot of people do and this is the main caise for the amps to blow up.. An amp should always have a BOLTED ground and B+ connection as well as good speaker connections to ensure no intermittant connections. When the intermittants do occour, these solid state amps are very unforgiving and will instantly short out one or more of the output devices or take out the switching power supply. Im afraid you cannot guess with the repair price on a unit like these, as it could have taken out one resistor or a whole line of solid state output devices. the only true way to tell would be to bench test the units with the proper equipment. I would be quessing, your repairs are going to go from 65.00 all the way up to 200.00 bucks, most likly excedding the cost of most amps.
