Go to Start > run type services.msc and Stop the Services DNS CLIENT and the try visiting the Microsoft update website.

check that the power bar is on, that the cable from the wall(or power bar) to the brick is in all the way, that the connection to the computer is actually in.

The reason XP cannot detect the hard drive is because thr hard drive in this model HP is a SATA hard drive and the Windows XP installation CD does not have the SATA controllers on this CD.

I suggest you roll back your previous driver if you have changed.
Or if your using windows os, run windows update for your hardware drivers.

If you are facing the connection problem, you need to do the following step.
Open Command Prompt, type ipconfig/release, after few seconds type ipconfig/renew. This will assign a new IP. Now you try to connect. If still facing the issue means you need to download and install a new wireless driver that is suitable for your operating system.

keyboard doesn't work usually caused the path of the key on the keyboard is dirty by the dust and liquid.
1. remove the keyboard from the laptop (see instruction how to replace keyboard)
2. remove all the key (you should do this step carefully because the mounting of the keyboard is weak)
3. you will see the key path of your keyboard clean it using some alcohol better 90% alcohol (you can find it on drug store)

Hi,to confirm if your drive is still functional please go to BIOS,by press F10 when the system has just been switched on,go to Diagnostics on the Bios Menu,select Hard Disk test to verify the state of of your drive,if after test drive is still ok back-up files and format,if not replace drive.

Power don the computer and try removing the BIOS battery, the rechargeable battery and the power cord for 10 min. This will erase the BIOS and re-set it to factory defaults, also clearing the BIOS password

check your power option in the control panel adjust it according to your preference ..

there is something inside the drive housing jamming it, you may need to replace the belt of ejecting motor/gear.
Most CD/DVD drives have a manual opener. Use a straightened out paper clip, and poke it into the small hole found on the front of the drive. This should release the drawer.
