You can try with an automatic driver tool, yes of course, it could be installed manually, but to avoid the hassles, you better opt for a driver utility.
Download and install this software (Device Doctor Free). Once it's installed, run the program and click "Begin Scan", wait for few seconds until the scan completes and search the scan result for realtek, if so click it, the direct download page will open up, download and install the driver, that should work without any more hassles.

Generally the slots are covered by a door secured w/ a captive screw. There is also the finger test. Memory gets *VERY* hot in laptops- and you could likely find the panel by running your system normally for an hour or 3- and feel for the hotspots. Your battery is almost surely just fine. But, your DC Power Jack has been damaged in at least one and possibly two ways.

1. The interior contacts or pins have been bent or broken.
2. The incorrect plug in caused a short on the motherboard and took out the cicuit paths for operation of both power and charging.

I am a pro laptop repair specialist and I use several different Power Jack repair vendors on eBay and have had only good experiences with all of them. While it's againt FixYa policy for me to recommend a specific vendor, you can go to eBay and in the search window type "Laptop DC Powerjack Repair". I suggest you compare pricing and ratings of the vendors by users and select an appropriate one.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact Toshiba and they'll handle the replacement for you.

Fill said container with either Isopropyl Alcohol or methylated spirits.
Dunk mainboard in the container and soak for 1/2 hour,
gently scrub clean with a clean toothbrush.
repeat as needed until all of the visible gunk is gone.
leave case and board to dry for 1 week no less.
or conversely buy a new laptop.
