I want to boot from

Before Windows boots, determine which keyboard command you need to type to enter the "setup" or BIOS. Hit that key and it should get you into the BIOS. Once in the BIOS, go to the boot priority settings and set the DVD to boot first. Normally the harddrive is first.

If your laptop is Acer Aspire 5720, you should have an "Easy Launch Buttons" the Bluetooth button should be somewhere above the F4 or F5 keys.

Laptop power charging stops and laptop later shuts

First you should figure out what caused this problem. Here below are some possible cause:

AC Adapter Problems
If the AC adapter is not working properly, then the charging won't occur at all. An AC adapter, with lower than required voltage settings, will not be able to charge the battery. See to it that the AC adapter matches the laptop battery's requisite settings. A loose wire or internal breakdown, may render an AC adapter useless. Changing the adapter all together might solve your problem.
Acer Aspire 5720 AC Adapter

Power Management Software Problem
Sometimes, the problem is merely with the power management software. This is the classic case, when the laptop charges when switched off, but doesn't when the computer has booted. The software may have gotten corrupted which must be causing the problem. In such a case, go to the device manager section and uninstall the power management software. In case of Windows XP, uninstall 'Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing' from the device manger section. Take care that you do not install any other AC adapter driver software. Then go for a 'hardware scan', which will automatically identify the battery and reinstall the latest version of the drivers again. That will restore the charging facility of your laptop.
Internal Charging Circuitry Problem
If neither the AC adapter, nor the power management software has a problem, then problem can be with the internal charging circuitry of the laptop. In this case, there is little you can do, other than send the laptop to the manufacturer's service center.
Bad Battery
If you have checked for all of the above, one of the main reasons, which could lead to the problem of laptop plugged in but laptop battery not charging is a bad or dead battery. Run a laptop battery test. If your laptop is quite old, this could be one of the most likely reasons. Get the battery checked from the manufacturer and check if it has exceeded its predicted recharge cycle limit. It is important that you get the dead battery replaced immediately with a new one. Laptop battery troubleshooting will solve the problem.

Hope this will help.

Acer Aspire RAM

There are 4 screws holding the cover on the bottom of the computer that allows access to the RAM modules. (This is the same cover that also covers the fan. The same cover with the ventilation slots.)

Simply remove the screws and lift the cover by the indent to the right of the battery lock.

I have an acer aspire

If it is like my wife's acer your HD is seperated into a C and D drive. Most everything on her computer is on the C drive so she gets the same message but her D drive is empty. You can check the drive by right clicking on your start button and opening windows explorer. Right click on your C drive and and select properties to find out how much space is on it. You can do the same with your D drive. Hope this helps.

Window error recovery wont reboot

Try this fix....

Windows Start-up Errors
Step one, you need a Windows XP CD. If you only have a recovery disk set like the ones from HP or Compaq they will not do what you need done. Under normal circumstances however, you can use a Dell disk because the Operating system is on a stand-alone disk. All retail versions are also acceptable as well as upgrade disks. For a rule of thumb, if the disk has the Microsoft hologram it should work. You can order a boot up floppy disk from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994 with this file, if you know how, you can use “ImageBurn” to burn the file into an ISO file which can be burned to a disk. Now make sure your computer boots to the cd rom first. If you know how to do this skip on down, if you don’t, while the computer is first starting up and you see the manufacturers splash screen, tap F12 (some computers it’s F9, others it may be another key, you may have to watch and see if the computer lists the key strokes for getting to the boot menu. If you still cannot find it, boot into the BIOS settings and change your boot order there. Save your settings and exit, the computer will now seek the cd rom as its boot source first.
Place your Windows disk in the computer and start it up. When you see the test at the top of the page “Press Any Key To Boot From CD” Just hit the space bar to activate. The next screen you will see will most likely be a Windows setup screen, when you see this press the “R” key to get to the recovery console. It will get there, it may take a little time, patience. Once it loads you will be given a choice of Windows installations, there should only be one, if there are more, always pick number one. It may ask for an administrators password, if you have not set this particular password, then just leave it blank and press enter. The next prompt you see is:
C:\Windows>
You need to type the following:
cd \
hit enter. Pay close attention to the spacing between the characters. There is a space between the character “d” and the “\”
You are now at the ROOT of the drive, this is where basic commands can be given and changed. You should now see the following:
C:\>
Now type the following:
CHKDSK /R
Hit the enter key.
The chkdsk /r command also includes the P command and will also look for lost recoverable information in bad sectors.
There are occasions depending on how corrupt the system is, that this process could take several hours, so be patient with it.
Now, after chkdsk has run type the following:
FIXBOOT
Hit the enter key.
It may prompt you with a warning, that’s ok, just continue. When fixboot has finished, type: EXIT hit enter and windows will reboot. When the system reboots, tap the F8 key during this time and you will see the multi-boot menu come up. Scroll to the title “Last Know Good Configuration” and hit the enter key. If you were having some simple drive errors this should have fixed them.

How do I turn off WIFI on Acer 5720 and use ethernet cord

If there isnt a button on the laptop to switch it on and off, then the easiest way to turn it off is to disable the wireless network adapter.
To do this, open Control Panel and double click Network Connections.
This will then show your wireless and ethernet adapters as icons.
Right click on the wireless adapter and then select "disable".
Your wireless adapter should now show as disabled.
If in the future you want to turn it back on, do the same again but select "enable".
