Dell xps m1330, turns off unexpectedly.

It could be overheating, and then shutting itself down, to prevent damage.

Restart, and enter SETUP mode, and choose the "System Health Info" setting, to find the internal temperatures.

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Buy a can of compressed air.
Follow the directions to keep the can "vertical",
and give a "blow-job" of compressed air into every port and access-door that you can find on the laptop.

You could be surprised at how much "dust" (and dog-hair) that the blow-job removes.

Integrated camera not detected

First make sure you install the right drivers. If that does not help, it could also be a USB device detection problem.

In any case, check the Device Manager to see if there is an unknown device and try to update the drivers for that.

Wont start up

Is your laptop connected to the power outlet? First check and make sure the laptop indicates that it is getting power.
Insert the recovery CD that came with it before you try turning it on. To open tray, use a paper clip, stretch it open and then insert it in the small hole on the front of your cd/dvd tray. It will pop open.
Turn on the laptop, press F2 to go to it setup menu and check configurations and run pc scans. You should test memory and hard drive both.
You can try a simple restart and load windows to see if it is working otherwise simply let the recovery cd work on the pc and reset the machine to its factory default. It should work fine.

My dell m1330 screen got vertical line in the

Hi,

This is definitely a problem inside the screen itself. It's likely that the circuits that control that section of pixels are loose, and when you're tapping them into place you're re-establishing the connection.

Since you're one of the fortunate ones who can get rid of the dead pixels by tapping the screen, I recommend you be gentle with it, as this is not a cheap fix. If your laptop is still under warranty, however, they can take care of it.

Hope I helped :)

The screen on my husband xps 1330 turns to

Yes, this is a very common problem with the M1330 due to a flaw in the Nvidea graphics processor chip. It also affects laptops from several other manufacturers, including some models of Apple laptops. The chip overheats and fails. Dell has supposedly extended warranty coverage by an extra year for this particular problem only. My daughter's M1330 was repaired under warranty for this issue. The screen of my XPS M 1330 notebook is dark. I

You have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out; usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Cannot boot laptop because of bios password

Easiest way to wipe clean the Bios password is as follows:
  • Perform a power drain by removing laptop battery pack and/or docking station power supply and hold power button down for 10 seconds
  • Locate the CMOS battery (usually under the smallest panel on the bottom of the laptop)
  • Remove CMOS battery for 20 minutes (20 is arbitrary can wait longer if you wish)
  • Replace CMOS battery and panel
  • Replace battery pack and/or replace to docking station
  • Power up
The Bios password should now be removed and you should be able to boot with no issues. Thank you for using Fixya and please remember to return to rate this answer.

Hi, Shutdown the system , and disconnect the battery from the laptop. Also disconnect the Ac adapter. There is a button the battery , press and check if there are any light the glow on the battery. If there are no lights that glow the battery is dead.
Press and hold down the power button for 10 sec. after removing the battery and the Ac adapter Reinsert the battery and connect the Ac adapter 1.Power on the system and tap on f2key slowly five to six times on the Dell logo screen 2. You would enter the blue screen 3. Using your down arrow key, go to the option that says battery info or battery health . Check if there are any error messages on the same. If the battery is not detected you would have to replace the battery
** Note ** normal life expectancy of the battery is one year.

Unfortunately, it sounds like there's a defect with the battery or charger. If there's a test button on the battery itself, press it and see if all the lights come on. If only the 1st, 3rd, and 5th light come on, then the battery is definitely defective and needs to be replaced. Otherwise, you may need to replace the charger

Can i hook up a hdmi cable from computer to dvd

Hi,
The HDMI port on your pc is an output device. That said, if your dvd recorder has an HDMI input or another input device then you can record from your pc to your dvd recorder. To do this, you will need the HDMI to A/V or anyother cable that your dvd recorder accepts as an input device. Another roundabout method would be to connect your computer to the TV which is probably already connected to your DVR for recording and record via that.
If you send your DVD recorder's model no. i can help you with exact instructions

Since yesterday, my xps m

it sounds like a clash between drivers. If what you describe is accurate, than there may be a problem with the driver of the screen. It can be caused by other drivers as well. However, what you described sounds like the display driver.

Did you install anything during the last days? maybe even the OS update can cause this. Try to boot to safe-mode, in most computers you can boot using the F8 or F12, depends on the manufacturer (I think Dell's F8, not sure). If the OS is uploading as usual (it won't look like the normal OS, but it's okay, don't worry) then you should check the drivers (right click on "My Computer" should get you there).

Please inform me of any developments or questions you may have

How do i replace the back light from my xps m1330

Well first I recommend if you do not already know how to do this, please do not. Second the cathode lights are normally 2 cathode lights, usually 1 on the top and 1 on the side, these are inside the outside plastics and set right up next to the screen, you will have to completely take apart the screen, will take an hour or so.
