After washing and spinning the dress still very
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
(no promises but it is worth trying this!)
I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to rinse or spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Here are my complete and generic guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT (alternatively use a wet vac as sensibly suggested by VinnyB1234!)
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.
(If these actions have not cured the problem, it could be the control board OR the main motor not spinning fast enough. Motors will show weaknesses when commanded to spin.)
If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!
John C

My machine is leaking out
Inspect externally visible components - Somewhere adjacent to your machine will be two faucets, one for cold and one for hot water. Flexible hoses with standard garden hose type fittings on each end connect these faucets to the water inlet valves for your machine. Check to see if either the hot or the cold water hose is leaking either along its length or where it attaches to the faucet or to the water inlet valve. In the simplest case, you may simply need to tighten the hose slightly at one end or the other. A pair of pliers can be used to tighten the hose fitting, but be very careful not to over tighten at the water inlet valve end because here the hoses screw onto plastic or nylon threads that can be stripped by over tightening. The hose fittings contain rubber washers or washer filter screen combinations that can be replaced if they have deteriorated. These can be obtained from local home improvement stores or appliance parts suppliers. If the hose itself is leaking then buy replacements for both the hot and cold water hose since they have probably experienced similar deterioration. Another possible source of water on the floor is an overflowing drainpipe. The drain hose from the washer normally has a curved end that hangs loosely on a vertical drainpipe (sometimes on a laundry sink) that connects into your sewer system. If the drainpipe or its connection to the sewer system is partially stopped up you will get an overflow when the washer empties. On a front loading-machine check for leakage around the door or any obvious deterioration in the gasket material. Get a helper and use a heavy piece of cardboard or masonite to protect finished floors if you have to slide the machine out for access. If the leak is not external you will have to look inside the machine.
2
Common washing machine components/operation - Understanding what you are looking at inside the machine requires some background about how washing machines operate. The washing machine has a water inlet valve assembly to turn on and off the hot and cold water that must flow into the machine. There are also flexible hoses to connect to your homes hot and cold water supply plus a rubber drain hose for emptying water from the machine. The machine has a tub for holding the water during washing and rinsing and the tub contains a "basket" (the part with holes in it that you see on looking into the machine) for holding the clothes. It has an agitator to accomplish the washing operation. It has a pump to move water from the tub to the drain and some kind of spin mechanism to remove additional water from the clothes after the tub is emptied. There is also an electric motor to power the agitator, the spin mechanism, and the pump as well as a transmission to couple the motor to the agitator and spin mechanisms. There may be a filter to remove lint during the wash cycle. Finally there is a control panel to select specific cycles, temperatures, agitation speed, amount of water in tub (load size), washing time etc. Inside the machine there are also hoses to connect the water inlet to the tub, to connect tub to pump to drain hose, and to interconnect the tub and pump and filter (if present), etc. The most likely points of water leakage are the internal and external hoses and their attachment points, the water input valve assembly, the pump, and the water filter. A less likely leak would be from the tub itself rusting out on an old machine or from some kind of mechanical failure or chronic imbalance that caused the basket to rub the tub during spin. The link "Online Appliance Repair Manuals" under resources below provides more detail, diagrams, and description for some specific brands as well as good general information. If you have not worked on washing machines before, it would be very helpful to read the first two short chapters in this reference or to read some equivalent tutorial material covering basic repair techniques and principles of operation and containing lots of explanatory figures.
3
Looking inside the machine - Here you will probably need a manual or at least the online resource cited just to get access to the inside. The assembly/attachment techniques are not always obvious just looking at the outside of the machine. Older machines sometimes had access panels on the back that provided a place to look in, but newer machines may require removing the cabinet and this is much easier if you know the recommended approach. Be very conscious of safety while working inside the cabinet. There are electrical shock hazards from exposed connections and mechanical hazards from moving parts plus possible wet wiring from water leaks. Keep machine unplugged and water turned off except as needed for tests. Also turn off water while moving machine for access and have a bucket to put the drain hose in. Inspect the inlet control valve and the tube connecting the valve to the washing machine tub. Check all internal hoses and their connections for leaks. Inspect bottom and sides of tub for any problems. Inspect the body of the water inlet valve assembly, the pump and the filter for signs of leaking through cracks or bad gaskets. Check all of the areas for wetness or signs of mineral deposits where leaking has been occurring. Remove failed parts referring to manuals or online sources as needed. Most hose clamps can be removed with ordinary slip jaw pliers. Some hose clamps may be of the screw type. If a hose is stuck and difficult to get off after the clamp is moved back out of the way, grasp the area where the hose overlaps the pipe with channel lock pliers and try to rotate it slightly back and forth to break the bond. Some sheet metal or machine screws may need to be removed to dismount parts.
4
Obtain new parts - You will need to know the make, model and serial number for your machine. If you have an owner's ,manual it will tell you where to find the "nameplate" which has this information. Lacking a manual try looking on the back of the machine or possibly just inside the door or sometimes down by the base. If you have an owner's manual it may also have a parts diagram and parts numbers. Your options for obtaining parts include getting from your dealer (e.g., Sears parts), finding a local appliance parts supplier (check your yellow pages and call first about availability), or ordering from an online appliance parts supplier. Ordering online is probably the cheapest, but if you are inexperienced it is nice to walk up to a counter with the old part in hand (along with your machine information) and get personal assistance in obtaining the right replacement.
5
Install parts - After installation check carefully to be sure the leak is repaired. Reassemble the machine.

Will not spin during spin
Hello,
Welcome to FixYa.
Based on what you've described, and provided the unit is draining ( and I mean the drum is clear of water aside from the items being soaking wet )...you likely need a door lock/switch assembly.
**The door latch is likely the single most common fault (which prevent's any spin, and consequently drenching wet clothing at the end of the cycle) with the frigidaire/electrolux built washer's, ASIDE FROM PUMPS BEING OBSTRUCTED.**
I think it fool's many people because the lock indicates it is energized on the panel, however the built in "monitor" switch inside the assembly fail's. I do see a lot of these particular machine's...unfortunately.
You should be able to purchase one at most local brick & mortar stores or on-line part's depot's such as "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclininc.com" to name a couple. They usually sell for about $50 or so, part # 1531974 ( # at repairclinic.com ) and are relatively easy to replace. It should resemble the image here...
As for replacing said switch, There are a couple ways to access it, through the top and squeezing your arm down the front or the way I prefer, remove the front bellows spring/retainer.
1) **UNPLUG THE WASHER FROM THE WALL OR TURN OFF THE BREAKER...SAFETY FIRST.**
2) Remove the spring, get it started where the spring is located with a small screwdriver. Once you`ve got the spring/retainer off ( it comes off and on pretty easy by hand ) pull the gasket/bellows back away from the cabinet.
3) Undo the two screws holding the switch to the cabinet, pull the switch out ( there is just enough slack in the wires so don`t pull too hard ) and swap the wires from the old assembly to the new one and you`re in business.
4) To put it back together, just reverse the removal procedure. The trickiest part is the retainer. Rap the retainer around the boot leaving the spring for the last...and make sure the spring is located at the 6 o`clock position...usually. Just wherever it was initially.
Let me know if you need further assistance going forward or if my instructions are not clear.
P.S.
There is a slim chance of a faulty motor or motor control board, but that would not be where I would direct you to start...those are exceptions rather than the rule.
Thank you for visiting FixYa today. Good luck.
Regards,
Macmarkus :)

My frigidaire washer FTF2140ES0 won't spin on the spin cycle
Hi there, the same thing is happening with our washer. Did you find a solution to the problem? We found a coin the the black tube, but it still doesn't do the final spin. I can hear the motor trying to do something, but it just won't do the final spin. If anyone has any idea or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I have a load of slopping wet laundry to deal with. :(

Ftf2140es3 won't completely drain or do final spin.
I have one that does the same thing at times. remove the bottom front panel. You will see a black boot that comes down from the tub. Loosen the clamp on top of the boot. You should be able to pinch the boot and feel something hard inside the boot. Pull the boot down from the tub and put your fingers down inside the boot and pull up the coin collector. It may be full of junk, coins ect. Clean it and replace the boot and clamp. This should help you.

Won't drain or spin
Find the pump on the battom. Make sure you get a pan, You will need this to cacht the water. Remove the hoses from the pump. Then you should be able to find the object. You may have to remove the pump. It is held on by two screws.

Water pump makes a buzzing sound when00 trying to
The pump is clogged with most likely a coin. You need to get access to the pump then remove the hoses.(Make sure you put a pan under the hoses to catch the water) After that you should be able to remove the objects.

LG stinks too
It is not a poor design its the way we have gone re washing clothes
Old machines washed hotter and with more additives in the powders.
Try using a good strong mix of soda crystals in hot water , pour that into the wash before you switch it on and do a hot wash without any soap powder
Use old fasioned powders for a couple of weeks and do a hot wash once a month with the soda
The constant cool washes leave body fats from the clothing inside the machine as there is no real heat to melt them and no soda in the washing powder anymore to unstick them from the surfaces .

STINKING CLOTHES front loading mach.
One possibility is to not leave the clothes in the washer overnight or they will have a little foul smell to them. We have a Samson washer and it does the same thing and it ranks close to the top on Consumer Reports. If this doesn't help have you tried going to Lowe's and ask someone in the appliance department to see if they can help. You may have already done this but call the manufacturer to see if this is a common problem and see if they have a solution. If they're not very helpful or cooperative let them know you will do a little "free" advertising for them in a nice way of course. I hope this helps. I'm having trouble with a Bissell shampooer not dispensing the shampoo and also not picking up most of the water. It's really aggravating. Have a great evening.

Washer not working properly
The reed switch has been removed from the newer washers of same model. Nothing to do with the switch. Open door and turn the drum. This has happened to me a couple times. If the drum will not turn , try putting a little force on it. Mine acted the same and it was a sock that was stuck. Didn;t know what it was until I removed the boot where the coin trap is . and found a sock hanging down from the tub. stick your fingers up it the tub( with washer unplugged) and check for any material that might be there.

Washer won't spin
Did you check that the door lock switch is working?
See this thread:
http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=3124
If it's not the door-lock switch, you need a new speed control board.
