hot water valve inside unit may be faulty ck it to make sure that it is powering up and then make sure it is operating. the cold and hot valve are one unit on most washers so the unit is replaced as one. if its a front loader than there might be a one way ck valve malfunctioning or the unit keeping intoducing water into the unit even though it is at the level it should be at. top loader then the level sensor is jacked and needs replaced.
Not spinning
Jeff,
Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean (refer manual as to how to clean). There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it (4 to 6 inches maximum). Snaking out your standpipe would be good too. And try some WD40 on the door lock

I had the same problem (9 year old washer). It was a broken support spider for the drum. It had corroded nearly through, so it was ready to break. Had to buy an assembly that included the drum. Cost about $265. The tub assembly has to be removed and split to remove the drum assembly. I found out that the door boot has to be reinstalled with the tub assembly out and the counterweights in the front removed. My door boot was glued to the front panel. Had to cut it loose with a razor blade. If the problem should be the bearings, the repair procedure will be the same.
Brown streaks on clothes
Are the streaks on smaller pieces of clothing (socks, etc.)? If so, the clothing item might be getting caught inside the rubber gasket around the door, and getting the streak from there. Try cleaning inside the fold of the rubber gasket very well, and often and see if it keeps happening.

Hi, You will need a new water inlet valve. the valve has stuck open just enough to let water trickle in. Until you can repair it, just turn the valve off at the wall. If you have not yet found your answer, let me know and I will assist you in getting part#.
I hope this helps. If so, please rate my answer so I know how I am doing.
Front load washer, water enters but the drum will
After removing the back from the washer I discovered that the shock on the left (looking in from the back) is broken. Also looking at the control board there is power on both sides of the fuse and after removing the belt the motor will not turn when control is placed in the wash or spin position.
My issue now is removing and replacing the shock and determining if the motor or the control board is the problem.
I will send an additional message on the solution that I came up with.
Frigidaire Gallery front load washer Model # GL2F1240ASO
The solution to this problem was embarassingly simple. I had the spin cycle set on "Fast" as it seemed to stabilize the washer. Just for something to try, I switched it back to "Normal" and voila - no more brown stains. Haven't got a clue why.
