Here is one or more issues with this drive.
1. The AC
adapter could be the main reason
2. The USB to SATA controller inside also can be the issue.
What you want to do to make sure the
adepter is not the cause:

Now most of these drives did
come with USB to ethernet defects and what you can do to save the drive is take it out of the current case. You can order a external case and put it into that.
you can also take the SATA drive out and put it into your computer and recover the data for it.
Now
Western digital has a 3 year
warranty for these
types of defects. Now if you are looking into a
replacement drive I would suggest you contact them I will give you there RMA information
