My 1 terrabyte Mybook drive says it needs the raid

It sounds like this drive is configured with two drives running RAID 1 (mirroring). If one of the drives inside the case has been removed or has failed, it needs to be replaced with an identical drive so it can resume mirroring. Raid 1 requires two had drives. Both drives are kept absolutely identical so that if one fails, the other continues to serve your files, but you will get a message like the one you have reported to let you know that a drive is missing or has failed. If you look in the case and there is only one drive, but a place for a second, then someone has removed the drive. If you look in the case and there are two drives, then the drive identified as Drive B has failed or has become disconnected, try re-seating the drive and check any cables or power connections. If it begins to work then, you may have solved the problem, otherwise you will need to get an identical drive and put it into the case. The raid controller will automatically identify that a new drive has been installed, then it will partition and format that drive automatically and resume the mirroring process.

I have issues while transferring files back from

Hard drive may be going south and there may be bad sectors on it. Run WD diagnostic program on it and cross your fingers. Do not format the drive - that will erase all. If you do find bad sectors the check disk program will find and block bad sectors and move data in bad sectors to good ones whenever possible. After that you can recover as much as you can but not all because there will be areas where nothing can be read at all depending on the severity of the damage to the sector.

PlayStation 3 has a Unix like operating system. It is proprietary. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/279261-32-retrieving-files-stuck-help The below is how the WD was reformatted to accept P3 content. Even if the PC reads the Fat format, the file types are native to the Unix like system, not Windows. But the above link may be of some help. http://www.wikihow.com/Add-an-External-Hard-Drive-to-a-PlayStation-3

the clicking noise is the reader arm jumping across platters on your hard drive you have a dirty hard drive first clean all the dust from your hard drive using a high powered suction vacuum cleaner or a fine air blower from a air compressor making sure there is no MOISTURE in the air lines then give the hard drive a firm tap on the side to free it up
make sure the lead/s that attach to this drive have a secure seating and are not bad/faulty the light on only tells that its getting power it might not be getting enough power you might test the lead/s or just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable, hope this helps

My WD 1tb drive has been working fine for a few

Here is one or more issues with this drive.

1. The AC adapter could be the main reason
2. The USB to SATA controller inside also can be the issue.

What you want to do to make sure the adepter is not the cause:

1. You can order a adepter off http://websupport.wdc.com/warranty/rmainfo.asp?custtype=end&lang=en

Now most of these drives did come with USB to ethernet defects and what you can do to save the drive is take it out of the current case. You can order a external case and put it into that.

you can also take the SATA drive out and put it into your computer and recover the data for it.

Now Western digital has a 3 year warranty for these types of defects. Now if you are looking into a replacement drive I would suggest you contact them I will give you there RMA information

To have the drive replaced follow the url below:
http://websupport.wdc.com/warranty/rmainfo.asp?custtype=end&lang=en

Thanks, I hope this does help. Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at https://www.6ya.com/expert/edwy_1a56970cf1ea4620

So you need to remove the heat sink and apply new heat sink paste and re-fix processor, re-fix ram sticks also.. make sure processor fan is working well.

if its still having problem, you need to check the SMPS...

Another reason, you need check to the compatibility of mother board with hard disk. That means, you need to check how much size of hard disk your motherboard will support?

My son unplugged his mybook from his machine and

Try this:
First, open: Start > Control Panel > Performance Information and Tools

You should see on the left hand side the words "open disk cleanup"
Click on that and pick your C drive in the pop up box. It will automatically analyze your drive and another box will pop up. Make sure all boxes are checked and then delete all the files. These are all unnecessary files that clog up your hard drive space.

Next, do a Windows update (programs > Windows Update). Do all the updates and let it complete.

Next, unplug your external drives and restart computer. After everything restarts and is fully loaded, plug in your drive again.

If Windows tries to install a driver, allow it to do so.

Now see if everything works fine. Hopefully it will. If not, do a complete virus scan on computer with a good, updated virus scan program. You might have a virus. Do it on all the drives including the external drives.

You can also defrag your computer drives to reorganize the files and speed up your computer. Do this by going to: Programs > Control Panel
Performance Information and Tools > then click on Advanced Tools on the left side. This will bring another box up. You will see Open Disk Fragmenter. Now click Select Volumes and select all your Drives that you wish to defragment (I suggest all of them). Then click OK. And then click on Defragment Now. This might take several hours so be ready for it when you do it. Restart your computer afterwards.

Hope this helps.
