Frigidaire Gallery GLEFM397DS Electric Kitchen Range - Page 9 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Hello Susan, thank you for your submission!
Based off what you have described the bake and broil feature is not working inside of your Frigidaire range. This could be an issue within your control panel or the elements of your range. A reset could help the range clear out any miscommunication that might be happening. You can reset the range by disconnecting power from it by flipping the household circuit breaker off for at least ten minutes. If this does not help correct your issue I would recommend seeking help from a professional technician. Hopefully this information is helpful. -Matt

Hello Paul, thank you for your post!
Based off the information you have provided the door on your Frigidaire range is hard to open and the hinge arm won't go down. This could mean that the hinge or the door might need to be replaced. I would suggest having a technician out to your home to provide a proper disassembly of the range. I hope this information is helpful to you in avoiding any unnecessary part purchases. -Matt

Hello Dddd;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

The model number is either on a label on the face of the range when you open the oven door or on the side of the door.

Why do you need a model number? What is the problem?

Go into the following website, put in your model number, you will get both diagrams and component part numbers for your appliance.

Get back to me if I can help you solve the problem. Water Filters Lawn Garden Appliance Parts

Hello Tim;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician, with a customer base of 25 families on the side. I love the work.

You did not post your range model number which is on a label either on the face of the oven when you open the oven door or on the side of the oven door.

Gas ovens have the same basic operational functions however, the components to initiate these functions is different depending on your model number.

1.) Ignitors - Your gas range has separate ignitors for the oven and the broil operation. So, failure of both at the same time is not the problem.

2.) Main Control Board - Rarely is this the problem if your burners are working.

3.) Gas Safety Valve - Has 2 lines coming off it. One to the top burners and one to the oven. Maybe, it happens, but it is rare.

4.) Main Gas Valve - Has two coils which may be bad. But, low probability.

5.) Thermocouple - High probability, if you only have one thermocouple for both the oven and broiler.

6.) Oven Control Board - This is a high probability. This is a smaller control board than your main control board. This board controls both your broiler and oven.
You can go into the following website, put in your model number, and get both diagrams and component part numbers.

You can go into this website and purchase from Sears, or you can record the model number, search the web and purchase a $200.00 part for about $40.00. Purchase used if you can. I do.

If you decide to go with the oven control board, make sure you ground yourself by touching bare metal. Static electricity will knock out a board. You should receive the board in a anti-static silver bag.

Remember, I do not have your model number, so I am guessing based on my professional experience.

Good Afternoon James, I appreciate your post!
Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire range will not bake or broil but the cooktop is working properly. This could be a potential issue with your control panel or elements. Since it could be anyone of these underlying issues I would suggest having a professional technician out to perform a proper diagnosis and repair. Having a technician out will prevent any unnecessary part purchases. Best of luck! -Matt

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

If you have a self clean feature or had just completed a self clean, you probably have a bad high temperature limit switch, which locks the door close until it cools down to 500 degree F. This switch will also shut down the oven control board.

You may also have a bad door latch assembly. The latch assembly has a micro switch and a motor. You can try to open the door, using a flat knife at the top of the door, between the door and the oven body move the knife from left to right.

Go into the following website and put in your model number. Unfortunately, your model number is on a label on the face of your oven when you open the door or on the side of the door. You will get diagrams and component part numbers.

Things to check : Thermostat, heating element and the circuit breaker for the stove at the power panel. If the stove has lights and the clock works, there is a 100 % chance the circuit breaker is at fault. There are 2 breakers with joined trip handles. One of those breakers has tripped without tripping the other which stops 20 volts but not 120 volts that the clock and light run off of. You can use a multimeter to check the element for continuity. If there is continuity then check for the presence of voltage at the element terminals. None indicates a bad thermostat.

I would recommend consulting with a professional technician for proper calibration of your range. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

Hello Douglas;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

What bothers me is that changing these components increased your flame size?

1.) Make sure you have the correct gas safety valve. These valves are preset to inches of water column.

2.) The ignitor has nothing to do with your flame size. What happens is the oven thermocouple controls your oven temperature. When your oven get about 40 degrees above the set temperature, the ignitor and controlling gas components will shut down. When your oven temperature falls below the set temperature the ignitor and gas components will turn back on. There are ovens called accurate, which are expensive and do not have a 80 degree swing.

3.) Ok. Gas regulator. It is adjustable. Generally you have about a 7" water column pressure going into the regulator and 1" to 4" water column pressure coming out.

At the top of the gas regulator you have a long stem. Inside this stem is a shaft with a spring at the top and a valve at the bottom. In between is a rubber diagram which controls the valve based on the gas inlet and outlet pressure.

4.) Adjust. Turn the gas supply off to the range. Turn on the oven and gas burners to bleed the gas from the system.

There is a slot at the top of the stem. With a flat head screw driver, turn the stem top 1/8 of a turn counter clockwise to reduce the regulator outlet pressure. Turn the gas supply back on to check the flame. You may have to repeat this process to get your desired flame.

BE PATIENT. BE SAFE.

Hello Charles, thank you for your submission!
I understand that the element on your Frigidaire range burns high on a medium setting and it has been recently replaced. This could be a possible problem with the wiring harness or switch inside of the range. Since it could be anyone of these underlying issues I would strongly recommend having a professional technician out. This will help you avoid any unnecessary part purchases. Hopefully this information can be helpful towards your repair. -Matt

Hello Anthony, I appreciate your submission!
From my understanding your Frigidaire range is not lighting and you have replaced the element. In order to further assist you I would need to have your model number. You can locate your serial tag (which lists your model number) on the lower drawer door frame. With that information I would be able to further assist you. -Matt `
