How do i disassemble my tomtom xl. I have removed the 4 screws but i cannot get it apart.
Hello,
once you have taken the 4 screws apart, the back cover is attached to the front one with plastic latchs. To open them, the best is to use one nail or a thin piece of plastic. Do not use an screwdriver or any other metallic tool or the covers will be marked. Begin with one of the sides, then the other, then the top (or the botton, I don't remember). You should not apply a strong force, and be very careful when it is almost done, as the cables connecting the battery and speaker are very short and could e damaged if the case opens suddenly.
Be gente and you'll be done.
Hope this helps.

No GPS Signal in TomTom One XL all of a sudden
I suddenly lost the GPS signal today and could not get it back. All I got was the "No valid GPS signal". My solution was to tap on the GPS satellite bars when in the route map. this brought up the "Status summary page of the TOMTOM.
I then again tapped the satellite bar which brought up the "GPS Status" page. I then tapped the bar labeled "configure".
The radio button next to the option titled "Minutes (dm.m') was selected. I then moved the selection to "Degrees (d.d) and it started working.
I had just downloaded the GPS fix 5 days ago so it is not like this suddenly caused it to stop working.
This may not work for everyone but this is what it took to get mine working.
Cheers

the usb socket on my tomtom one xl has broken off main pcb.
Can i do temp repair to allow battery to charge ie cut off usb plug if yes does anybody have pin out of socket/plug.
I have gone around this problem by removing the internal battery, and soldering a female power connector to it.I now it on 3 aa batteries, alkaline cells givbe me an autonomy of about an hour, maybe duracells will give a bit more duration.
When i have time ,I will work on splicing the wires on the cigar plug adaptor and use that as a permanent power source. The wires for the Lipo cell are Red positive, solder this to the yellow wire( probably a battery gauge wire) and black ground.
Hope this helps
Very poor workmanship from TOMTOM

I need help with mounting my tomtom on my car windshield
I was perplexed by the lack of instruction as well. However, I took the unit to my car and realized that the black disk is not needed for mounting the unit to the windshield. If you look carefully at the bumpy plastic ring just above the suction area, there are two little pictures on the back of a lock; one open and one closed. With the ring in the open position, push it against the windshield and turn it to the closed position. It then sticks to the glass very well. I now just snap the unit in and out of the mounting ring that I leave stuck to the glass. I hope this helps. I assume that the presence of the black disk is to bring people closer together with digital communication.

My TomTom XL, is not able to find any gps satellite signals, this started after I updated it via internet, I waited for 3 hrs with no show, so I reset to default, then tried finding gps satellite signal...still not working, its only 2wks old....
i had exactly the same problem, i dont really know how i solved it but first i thought it could be a memory problem slowing the gps signel so i reset the tom tom to factory settings then downloaded the updates from the tom tom home program of corce i lost all my destinations but i didnt want to do a back up just incase one of the updates had a virus or something so if u want to keep them i sugest u write them down first.and then i got a safty pin and pressed the reset button underneath where the memory card goes twice the second time i held it down for about 10 seconds then i looked for updates again from tom tom home. after that in tom tom home there is an option where u can operate your tom tom on your pc so i tryed that and i put in a destination on the pc and clicked on demo tour so i watched the route first it was a bit slow but started to speed up a little. after it had finished i un plugged the sat nav and went for a walk with it around the house soon as i went out side and set a destination it found 6 gps signels, make sure yhe battery is charged to at least half. well i hope anyone who follows my steps gets the same results, thought i lost 200 quid cos i have had it over two years and its only guarenteed for 12 months. well good luck.

when i turn the device on it asks for the password. when i entered the correct password it does not move on to the next screen. i am 100% on the password and yet i justoes not do anything. what can i do now?
I got this similar password problem with Tomtom One XL. I just solve this problem step by step under the following ways.
1. Connect One XL to TomTom Home in your computer using USB cable and switch on ONE XL. (Click YES to connect each other)
2a. Click "Manage my ONE XL"
2b. Click "Items on device" tag.
3. Now you can see all of the data in your device and click "Applications".
4. Click inside the check box and click "Copy items to computer".
(This step is back up for just incase)
5. After Backing up your applications, then Click "Applications" check box and click "Remove from device".
6. After removing applications, unplug from computer and switch off ONE XL.
7. Connect ONE XL and computer again and switch on your ONE XL.
8. TOMTOM Home will search your applications in your device. Finally it will automatically download and installed the new applications. (There will be 4 times installation and the device will restart itself. At this step, you need to touch "Yes" on your device to connect the device and computer.)
9. After installation completed, your device looks like newly come out from the factory.
10. Set up Language, Time, and so on and ready to use.
Enjoy it

TomTom HOME 2 (latest) refuses to recognize my device. If I connect the device with TTHome inactive, he wants to download and install TTHome.
After installing I'm offered the option to start TTHome. At this point hovering over the TTHome icon in the system tray shows "TomTom HOME Navigation device connected", but nothing more happens.
If I then disconnect the device and reconnect, after tapping YES (to connect) eventually I get the upgoing booboop identifying a successful USB connection. At exactly this point the TTHome window flickers and
sits there with the Device menu disabled.
It SEEMS as if, as soon as the device has connected itself to TTHome, TTHome restarts itself without the device connected.
The instruction book tells me that I should:
1. Connect my computer to the internet
2. Connect the unit to the computer (via USB) and start it /the unit)
At this point TomTom HOME starts installing
In my case, if I connect the unit any time AFTER this, the same thing
happens, TomTom HOME is reinstalled. The instruction book indicates that, once TomTom HOME has been installed, it will START automatically whenever I connect the unit. Conclusion: HOME is NOT
installing correctly.
Sounds like you are trying to install tt home from your tt device. Go to the tt website and download from there.
