Tomtom GO 720 GPS Receiver - Page 8 Questions & Answers
720 go wont let me download music onto it wont let
Have you installed an expansion memory card in the 720? Sometimes it wont let you download music because you have filled up the internal memory. You need to put music on to the separate expansion card. BUT... when connecting to the computer to update map corrections and software, if you have not selected INTERNAL MEMORY when it connects, it won't be able to find the tom tom software, so it will just think you have another external USB hardrive attached. SO... take the expansion card out of the tom tom, then connect the tom tom to the computer in the normal way - Voila, suddenly it now sees the tom tom and you can update software. But do not download any more music to the internal memory. Ultimately you will have to format the EXTERNAL expansion card to clear it of any tom tom software updates, then download ONLY MUSIC to the external card. Do not hit Update My Tom Tom while connected to the external card - only do this when connected to the internal memory.
My tomtom is 24% up to date. How do I update?
You need a Tom Tom USB Cradle that will allow you to connect your tom tom to a computer. Assuming you already have one, then just connect the Cradle to a working USB port on the computer, then with the computer turned on, plug your GPS into the cradle. It should come on automatically and ask you "Connect to Computer?" Just press Yes on the GPS screen and your GPS will attempt to talk with your computer. It will automatically download updates for your system software and any mapping corrections made by you of other users. If it does not automatically download updates, then you need to launch Tom Tom Home. Once this launches one of the first screens has a button titled "Update My GPS" Just touch this bitton, or click it with your mouse... and you will be away.
Tom Tom 720 keeps jumping to main menu
Well I finally figured it out for those who might run across this problem.
It seems that when it got hot and expanded the grey bezel around the
screen would touch the screen just enough to activate it. I gently
pried the bezel up just a bit and it seems to have solved the problem.

No Application on my TOmtom go 720
Connect your TomTom to your PC and open the drive in "my computer". Locate the ttgo.bif. Copy and paste the ttgo.bif onto your desktop (do not skip this step in case something goes wrong) then go back to the TomTom and delete the ttgo.bif. after deleting ttgo.bif open TomTom home. It should then tell you you need a operating system. Let TomTom load the system. You may have to do this a couple of time to fet the latest operating system back onto your TomTom.
Restarts unexpectedly and slow to start
The TomTom 520 and 720 are the same unit. the differance is the maps. The 520 has maps of the US and the 720 has maps of Europe. Download the free clearflash utility from TomTom and run it a couple of times. This should clear up your problem. Sometimes the mapset config in the map gets full and it has to be cleared.
It shows a 'X' mark

Spoken Address Problem with my TomTom Go 720
Use
Windows explorer or some other file
manager
to view all folders and files on your docked (and powered on) Tom tom unit.
If you don't see a folder in the root of the unit called ASR, then create it.
Now, in the folder ASR, you create a text file using Notepad. Just put a 1 in it, nothing else. Save the file as support_asr.dat and make sure in Notepad when in the Save as screen, you have selected 'All files' as the
file type
.
Finally, to make sure, in
Windows XP, goto Control Panel-->Folder Options-->View tab, and make sure the option under Advanced settings window for 'Hide extension for known file types' is UNCHECKED.
Tomtom go 4V00.710. Green light is on when
i had the same problem; there is a simple reset solution, which is not described in either of the manuals which i have.
This involves removing the SD card, pressing a (tiny) reset button for 15 seconds, pressing the on/off switch for 5 seconds, then replacing the SD card. To locate the reset button, try the TOMTOM website/Support
Magellan roadmate 700 no maps found How do i fix
Hi,
the road maps for this model are on An SD Card.
If you don,t have the SD Card with the maps on, your roadmate won,t find them.
You can also contact:- Magellan for mapping updates.
I believe they do not supply the roadmaps with this item, which @ $1. 200 is a bit of a rip-off however good and accurate they are.
Sir,
It is already fixed . Thank you.
TomTom Go 720 map activation
No Maps Found usually means the Application on your internal memory is not the latest one, or the map did not download correctly.
Make sure when you select internal memory when updating your device on home, that you update the application as well.
V8351 should be the latest application for your device.
