is it a commercial DVD or a home made DVD? For the DVD player itself, double check all of the cable connections and then check the input setting on your television.

One simple solution is to unplug the unit for 30 seconds then plug it back in. Worked like a charm for me.

Check its Ariel connections for firmness. If found OK, check and replace its tuner.

Someone first will have to open the player to see if mechanism jammed or something out of position and to see what is actually happening--this is the flaw with combo units--one part fails to work and that can be the end of the unit.

see the procedure and fix it.God bless you
    • 1 Purchase or borrow an imported DVD. The only real reason to make your DVD player region-free is if you plan on watching imported DVDs.
    • 2 Locate your DVD player's brand name and model number. These can usually be found on the box the DVD player came in, or on a sticker close to the video inputs or on the bottom of the DVD player.
    • 3 Have your remote handy. You will need your remote to enter the input codes into your DVD player.
    • 4 Locate a Web site that can help you with the codes you need for your particular DVD player, since all DVD players have different codes. Try DVD Exploder or Video Help (see Resources below). Both have an extensive list of codes for almost every kind of DVD player manufactured.
    • 5 Enter your brand name and model number when prompted to do so on the Web site. If your particular model number is not available, try searching under the brand name. Sometimes you will be able to find a model number that is close to your DVD player's model number.
    • 6 Enter the codes into your DVD player with your remote. Be sure the DVD player's door is open-almost all codes require the door to be open.
    • 7 Test your imported DVD to see if it works, once you have entered your code into the DVD player.

If you are using a Sylvania DV220SL8 DVD Player \ VCR combo (which this question is posted under the heading of) there is a very simple reason why you can't format DVD-RW disks. DVD Players can't do that. You need a DVD Recorder to format DVD's.

This applies to all comments under this heading as well. You can not record if the unit you're using does not have that capability. And this unit does not have it. You can record with the VHS VCR, but the DVD Player is just that... A Player. It's not a Recorder.

The instruction book will give a list of Error Messages and their meaning.
If you've lost the book go to Sylvania's website where there will be easy to follow steps to either viewing the book for the device or downloading and printing it.

Hello there,
If your player does not have the usb port or hub on it,you will not be able to connect the mp3 player to the dvd player, but if it does have the port, that is where to connect the mp3 player.
There are some kind of devices that helps to connect the mp3 to the dvd through the audio plug in on the back of the player.
Hope this helped, Goodluck Elect_Comp

This is typical with many sets when it goes old as there is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance.

The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on , If there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points.

Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up, if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault.

Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections. Sometimes large IC's- ones with more pins- tend to have drying in some pins and so cause faults related to the IC's protocol. Have a rough idea of looking into the areas to reduce the time of probing. Check the power plug and the power socket for loose connection.

Press the top menu button on the remote after putting a multi movie DVD. Scroll down on the movie file you want to play and press enter. You will see two items in each of the movie folder, Scroll down on the second item and press enter. That is the movie folder. It will play.

recorded DVD-R should be finalize first in the recorder to make the DVD-R playable in your PC.
On the manual of your Sylvania recorder find the steps on finalizing the disc after completing the recording.
You also must have a DVD player software installed in your PC in order to play it. There is a limit format of files that a windows media player can play in windows. Suggested player is PowerDVD player that can be downloaded free in the internet.

Good luck!

Try unplugging the unit for a few seconds, plug it back in and try it. It may also be dirty and need a service.

The loading basket with the motor driver is defective, they work together in order to load the tape into play mode. I recommend returning the item for exchange.

There is a short in the power supply board or a load, the power transistor that is usually heat sink-ed is one problem area, the second thing I have encountered is a bad filter capacitor located near the heat sink "usually opens" after this point, I occasionally run into small parts that have been an issue. To pursue this, a technician would be an asset.

(its been a while since you've posted this so I am pretty sure you figured it out but just in case you haven't) you hold down on the play button (while listening to a song) until the volume control shows up on the bottom and then use the fast forward, rewind buttons to adjust. you can also hold down the menu button (while still listening) and it will take you into the EQ options. Hope this helps!

If all your other DVD work fine then there is a problem with the rental, rinse rental DVD with warm water and dry it off with a paper towl in a circular motion, now try and see if it will play, if it does it was probably dirty. Now if you still have a problem there may be deep scratches and in that case return it to the rental store and see if they can offer another.
