Hello, like a fool I went onto the demo firmware on my machine. I tried the reset button a number of times but it comes back to the demo screen. Now I am getting a screen titled Recovery 108, with the option to repair or format my system. I have tried to upload the new firmware onto it but nothing happens. Please can you help me as I think it is shagged.
In order to fix this issue, we are going to need to force the unit into a
recovery application. In order to do this please make sure that the unit is
completely shut off. When the unit is off, you are going to want to press and
hold the TV/LCD button and the power button at the same time until a recovery
code 101 pops onto the screen. As soon as you see this, let the buttons go.
Once you got this screen up, you are going to want to repair the operating
system by arrowing down and clicking repair. After this is done it is going
to ask you to connect your device to the computer and install an update file.
In order to do this, you are going to want to go to www.archos.com and go to
downloads. You are going to want to download the firmware for your unit.
After the firmware is saved to your desktop, plug the unit into the computer
and open up "My computer" and you should see the Archos in the list
of drives.
Your going to want to copy the firmware onto the root directory and not in
any file folders. Once the firmware is on the Root directory, go ahead and
unplug the unit from the computer. It should still say Please plug your
device into the computer and install an update file. Click OK. After this is
done, it is going to tell you to please connect DC or USB in to continue with
the update. Go ahead and let the unit install and reboot. After this is
done, you should be able to use the unit properly. If the unit still does not
work properly, we are going to have to create an RMA for the Archos. If you
need anything else, Please feel free to contact us via Email or at

How do I install flash player 9 on an Archos 605 WiFi
Are you trying to actually install flash 9, or just play youtube videos again? (The youtube problem was solved here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t436385-play_anything_youtube)

I have just purchased an Archos 605 and was wondering how I can download games to it. There is a flash directory but when I put a programm into it and try to install the game it will not do i. Any ideas?
There are a lot of games you can download for Archs, but most games aren't created for it, so they won't work. Touch works and the game must be in the flash folder (you don't need to install it).
In he widgets -> flash it says empty also on my archos, but go to Files -> then the Flash map.
There you can find all the files, just select and run, Suc6!

Same issue on my Archos 605 wifi 4GB
The Repair didn't work so here's what I did.
1) connected via USB and got all my Picture, Videos and Music to a safe place.
2) Downloaded firmware update.
fouund it here - http://www.downloadplex.com/Drivers/Firmware/Archos/Download-Archos-605-Wifi-4GB-Firmware-2.1.04_109044.html
3. Copied update to root of archos drive and rebooted
4. Archoes installed the update and rebooted and came up to desktop again
5. reinstalled plugins (thank god I saved them) copied plug-in to root.
6. Back on the road again

My archos 605 wifi isn't playing anything on youtube anymore. I had it working before, but it stopped for some reason. I use google video to look for videos as well, and when I use the "watch video here" option it opens just a black box. It never loads. When I go to youtube it tells me that I don't have the latest version of flash, or I have javascript off. I know that this thing only uses Flash 7, but the Archos is SUPPOSED to work with youtube. Very specifically even. Is there something that I can do to get it working again? (without resetting th system?)
I figured it out. (Or accidentally fixed it) First I reset the temp files
Main menu>System>Repair and Formating Tools> Clear temporary system files and cashe
This didn't erase any of my content... though I did lose my extra favorites links.
Then
I happened to open the browser and check the settings there. I noticed
that "flash content" was disabled. I fixed that, and it works. (As sad
as it sounds, I don't think I needed to erase the temp files. But it
works nonetheless.)

How do I replace the battery on the Archos 605?
I purchased the battery at the link listed here
http://www.newmp3technology.com/605-30-battery.htm
The replacement is not easy, but I was successful
tools reqd':
a very small phillips head screw driver (for cover)
a very small allen key (for hard drive removal)
side cutters
solder iron (very small tip)
small shrink tube (or black elec. tape)
remove the back cover (4 small screws top and bottom of the gray back and 4 small screws at the silver sides of the unit) also be careful here as the screen is now loose and can fall away if not supported
remove hard drive (4 small allen screws) make sure you GENTLY wiggle the hard drive out of plug
the battery is now exposed
this was the nasty part, the battery can be removed out the back but you have to pry it out, I ended up prying and bending the battery to remove it (it was do or die at this point). once you have it loose snip the black and red wires leaving about 3 inches.
the new battery dropped into place very easily.
Strip about 1/4 inch off the blacks twine them together and carefully solder (if you twine them end to end make sure you slip a 1" piece of shrink tube over one before you solder, I twined them side by side so I could slip on the tube after) if you use elec. tape instead of tubing MAKE SURE you leave no wire exposed or you unit will likely be forfeight. Repeat process for the red wire making sure the battery lead does not contact anything but the other red lead.
I laid the 2 solder connections along the top edge of the unit so as not to interfere with the hard drive laying flat
reverse the order to reassemble and that should be that!
My new battery was flat on delivery but has now charged up fully and seems to hold a good charge.

Hello People,
I`ve just got my Archos 605 WIFI
Now I read that I have to buy a Web Browser Plug-in
WHERE CAN I BUY IT?
Please help me.
Greetz John
There is a seller on ebay (name is luhahaca) that says he is an Archos official Plug-ins reseller. Just search for 605 Plug-ins on ebay. He sells a four pack for only $38.00. I bought and installed them and they work great. Really makes the Archos functional - the way it should come out of the box. Actually, (sadly) the way it does seem to come out of the box - I was disappointed when I received my plug-ins download. All 4 plug-ins = 2kb. Web browser with widgets, extended movie and music capabilities and Real player mode. It seems to me that all of this is already in the Archos, they simply charge extra for a key to access it. It's a shame. Totally worth the price if you have an Archos, but really too bad they feel the need to force their hand into your pocket after you've just given them hundreds of dollars. I think the unit would be reviewed better, and Archos wouldn't look so petty, if these features were just enabled right out of the box. (my opinion anyways)
Anyhow, I hope that answered your question!
