I believe that archos cut it's support to the 5 gen series ( 405, 605, and 705). I say this because they took all of those devices off their website.

There is a hack that will allow you to run a dummy version of windows vista, but it's useless and has very limited functionality.

I found that I have to leave my archos 605 powered on to get a full charge out of it, blinking light and all

I wouldn't waste your money on it, I would just take out the IDE notebook hard drive, and use it as an external mobile hard drive. However, if its a Hitachi, I wouldn't trust having your important data on it. No offense, I have just worked on many Hitachi hard drives, the mechanical design to the Hitachi hard drives pitiful.

I have the same problem with my Archos 605 Wifi.

I found out that my harddrive was broken. so i replaced it with a new one.

Formatted it, system installed the OS and Media Files.

I downloaded the firmware from the Archos website itself!.

Also this went well. Than i had to confirm with ''done''.

But still i keep cycling through a circle of ''rebooting'' and receiving the ''HDD_Recovery_2'' screen. With the only selectable options:
''USB'' and ''Format''

Well, I mean this isn't legal but it isn't illegal so i'll tell you the best site for this. Go to Youtube.com typer in Archos 305 wifi product key then you should see a list of videos explaining what the key is. Look in the desktop copy and paste and there you go!

while its pluged in try to chande programs and turn off all backlight and clock and any other things that take energy away from it.

This will not be a problem with the internet unless there is a faulty network card internally/externally of the computer.

The software/firmware will have to be updated. You can get a usb cable and probably the update from manufactures site.

Check your charger or try another charger.

Two previous solutions on FixYa! indicate the following to solve the issue:

Method 1:
1. Select 2nd option "Repair" or 3rd "Format the disk"
2. Connect 605 to PC using USB wire and find the Driver named "a605" or similar words
3. Copy a firmware to the ROOT directory on the driver mentioned above
4. Keep the USB connected and select "OK" on 605
5. Re-calibrate the screen under Display menu on 605.

Method 2:
1) connected via USB and got all my Picture, Videos and Music to a safe place.
2) Downloaded firmware update.

3. Copied update to root of archos drive and rebooted
4. Archoes installed the update and rebooted and came up to desktop again
5. reinstalled plugins (thank god I saved them) copied plug-in to root.
6. Back on the road again

I was think maybe there is something was wrong with the Firmware so i decided to download the new firmware that was available at Archos.com. at the white screen wen you see the white screen keep hitting no rapidly until it starts up to your regular screen. If you must try the recovery. Anything to get to the main screen. Then try putting the updated fimware into the root directory after you connect via USB. Then try rest settings.

I have a similar problem. I received my Archos 605 two weeks ago and thought the product was awesome. However, I had to call customer service for the plug-ins I was supposed to receive free. I was dropped twice after waiting for 12 - 15 minutes each time. On my third call, I finally received customer service after waiting an additional 12 minutes. The woman was very nice where she finally got me 6 of the 7 the rebate specified.

Today, 09/14/09, I had to call Archos for the broken screen which was a 20 minute wait. It is NOT under warranty and will cost me $155.00 plus shipping. I paid $154.99 total for the unit brand new.

Customer service stated sorry. DO NOT PURCHASE AN ARCHOS -- BY A IPOD. I HAVE LEARNED!

You may have a bad sector on the HDD where those files has been saved. Please check my other fix responses to be able to format your HDD and reinstall the firmware version 2.1 which is the latest one right now. I recommend after the HDD formatted do a disk repaire using Windows. Keep it mind you will lose all the contents and plugins from loaded to the device you need to decide which one is more important saving the Archos or losing the contends. If you be play it safe i'd say send it to archos and have them replace the HDD it costs about 150-170 $ but they will be able to put your plugins back in. and you will have 3 months warrant on their fix.

No but what you can do is purchase a mini dock for it and then connect an SD card reader via USB.
