    Canon MP470 will not scan

    Hello.

Scanning a document requires the MP Navigator EX software to be installed. If you don't have a copy, select: http://download.cnet.com/MP-Navigator-EX-for-Windows/3000-2094_4-10971618.html Choose Download Now and follow the process to install and run.

Scan pictures or documents using the MP Navigator EX software that was installed from the CD. Start the application, then click the "Scan/Import" button. Select "Photos/Documents (Platen)" to indicate you want to scan items on the scanner bed. Then use the "View & Use" screen to choose what you want to do with the scanned images. You can save them to your hard drive, email them, print them or, if the scanned document was a text image, use the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature to convert the scanned image to text.

    Hope this helps.

    The mp470 printer keeps saying

You will have some paper stuck in it somewhere. I presume you had a jam and removed the paper but it will have probably left some behind. Shine a torch into the print engine and look behind the 4 and 5 white little rollers. Turn the machine around and remove the rear cover and see if any is there. I can almost guarantee some tiny piece of paper is still in there.

    Error code u163 problems

I can find no reference to error u163 only u162 which refers to out of ink. You should be able to solve your problem as the "U" denotes that it is a user error so it will be with either inks/paper or pressing wrong buttons etc.

    Srri cant help more.
    Good luck

    U051 error message. Won't print

Well, you must be using PG30, CL31 cartridge for your printer.

    Did you refill your cartridge?
For error 051 means printer is not reading the cartridge. (cartridge is not readable)
When you put refilled cartridge, that's what it happens.
(after 3~4 times of color refill, color cartridge is no long to use, only applies in Canon
and there is no solution for it.)

Pls replace with new one.. and will work again.

Or if you need to refill again with other cartridge, pls....unplug your printer before you taking out the cartridge. In this way, you can re use your cartridge. Little trick... but no solution will work, once cartridge is not readable.

If you would like to save money, try refill kit by "ROADINK". Not only they are easy, but also the printing quality is good. For your better understanding pls check out my youtube video. And will see how easy ink refill can be done.

    Canon pixma mp470service error 5100

    Hi ahareas,

This error 5100 that you are getting could be as simple as a loose cartridge. Take the cartridges out and put them back in making sure they snap in. There's also a possibility that there's something inside that is obstructing your print cartridge. To take a look on this, took the back off with three screws, then the side panel. You have to take the trim off, there's one screw. Look for the little arrows that show where the tabs are that slide into the side of the printer itself. Use a screwdriver to unsnap them. Tip your printer side ways and check if there's any obstruction in there. Remove it and put your printer back together.

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you for using FixYa.

    I have a Pixma MP470

I can help you with this problem. However, I am not sure that attempting to do so via email back and forth is the best method to take? You have multiple issues going on that need to be addressed one by one and my answer on the method to repair this problem will will change based on your reponse to my questions. We may get lost & I dont want you to become frustrated in the meantime - but I will give thie method my best shot. Here goes . . .

    1. the problem you are having has nothing to do with your anti-virus or firewall

    2. Removing & reinstalling the software is NOT going to fix this problem

    3. If your pc is producing a 4x6 "picture" then it is doing what it is supposed to do by default if your intention is to produce a "picture" to send to someone via email

    4. It doesn't matter whether you have a "digital camera" or not, you CANNOT skip installing that portion of the printers software if you intend on ever using the scanner function.

    5. Be careful of your teminology used to describe your problem in this matter and understand that a "document" and a "picutre" are two totally different things (each has their own specific set up with your printer - they are handled by two different programs - and chosing one or the other gives totally different results based on a default setting).

    6. Regardless of the size of the image, document, or picture chosen as a default for scanning, when your intention is to send it to someone via email when finished, the software is always going to change the output size to 4x6 or less because email programs have specific size limitations on what you can attach or include. So you can sit and change it over and over again - and it won't matter. Unless you pay for additonal storage size on your email account, your email program is going to automatically scale it down to whatever is necessary in order to send it. If you turned off this feature in email, it would just not send the email and you would get an error message that your mail cannot be sent. If the person on the other end wants a larger size than what you are sending to them they have the option to edit the image and enlarge it after receipt. So the size used to get the image to pass via email should be of no concern if you are sending "pictures". The only type of image that the size would matter if forwarding it to someone via email - would be a "document". The receiver cannot enlarge a text document to a bigger size without changing the flow of the text and messing up what you intended to send to them. A text document is always saved as a regular paper size which is not 8x10 its 8 1/2" x 11"

In order to use a "all in one machine", you need to install three things in printing software. One is a printing driver for the ability to just print something from your computer and send it to a printer. The second type of driver is photo editing, because you want to be able to scan both pictures and text documents and they are two different things. So you need the ability to edit a photo when scanning and saving or sending via email. The last thing is a text scanning driver in order to scan and save documents created in software like microsoft word or adobe acrobat documents which are called "pdf" format. There are additional driver requirements for doing things like faxing (and faxing from your pc and sending the image to your printer to forward via telephone to fax and scanning an image with your scanner to send via fax are two totally different things)

What you need to do to solve your issue is to make sure you are using the "document" scanning choice default - when you want to scan a text document - and that will create and save it in a letter size or 8 1/2" x 11" AND use the "picture" scanning choice by default when you intend on creating an image file or actual picture - that you want to be able to send by email - using email server restricted size rules - which are smaller than a 4 x 6.

When you go to scan something and open the software, you should have two options to choose from - 1. do you want to scan a text document? or 2. Do you want to scan a picture? Each one has its own settings. If you trying to scan a picture and choosing your "text document" default choice at the beginning - it is not going to give you the result at the end that you want. Just like trying to scan a text file and save it as a picture is also not going to give you the end results that you want.

You can change the default scanning choices for a text document and a picture image and if you have done that - it can lead to all sorts of other nighmares when trying to use a simple scan function. If you changed the default, I would need to troubleshoot this - step by step - by walking you through scanning a text document and checking certain places in the canon sofware along the way and then do the same thing for a picture image scan. If you have changed the default, you can either uninstall and reinstall the printer software and choose the default settings for both document and picture when completing the installation OR use the chat support option in Fixya so that you can have an expert sit with you and correct the problem as mentioned above.

I know that I threw a lot at you in a single email - and I am unsure as to whether you can take it all in and make sense of it in a single session? But at least I have answered your questions to the best of my ability using this email option choice to remedy this situation. I hope this helps and wish you good luck!

    Error code5100

    HI:
5100 is a carriage error, check the timing strip for contamination(plastic strip about 1/4" in width)
The unit is not homing, check for obstructions.

This error means that there is something obstructing the printing process. Check inside your printer through the gears that you can see under the lid. There should be something obstructing the gears such as dirt or in my case popcorn. There was even some paper caught underneath the rollers that I had to jiggle around to even see. Check VERY thoroughly.

Does't feed paper properly , and therefore doesn't

The paper pick up fingers and rollers get smooth and polished with use and then slide on the paper. Clean the rollers and pick mechanisms with isopropyl alcohol to rejuvenate them and restore their grip on the paper. Do this as far along the paper path as you can get, using Q Tips where necessary and turn the rollers to clean their whole surfaces.

    Paper feeds incorrectly the feeder

Sometimes dried ink on the roller causes it to incorrectly "grip" the paper, making it slip in one section and pull to the side, Check the rollers for Ink and other dirt.
Also try less paper in the feeder, it may simply be too much and is not able to feed it correctly.
    Hope this helps GM

    Please tell me how to

The printing dialogue box may allow you to select duplex printing but you may have to physically turn the paper over yourself UNLESS you purchased a DUPLEXER for your printer.

If the paper feeds from the back and the finished product comes out the front, you will have feed the paper back into the back of the printer.
