Hi richardhaley,
Isee that you are having issues with your Canon MP610 printer.
You mentioned that your printer is connected to an Apple Time capsule via USB and that it works fin on your Macbook and on your sons Vista Laptop but prints the colored shifted to the right on your daughter's Vista and wife's XP Laptop and this is connected via USB.
If I may ask have you tried printing wireless using your daughters Vista Laptop and you wife's XP Laptop to see if the colors are still gonna shifted to the right.
Also you mentioned the drive that the driver you are using is from bonjour but still you have the same problem.
Here is a link where you can download drivers specific for the versions of windows your daughter's Vista and your wife's XP would have, you will need to select exactly the OS operating system for the driver that you need also there is a software for each Operating system as well maybe you can download that as well for both system for you to be able to recalibrate the printer from the 2 machines.
I hope that this will help.
Thank you for choosing Fixya,

Your print head is clogged, or you are running into trouble with the smart chip limiting the number of prints. Go into the printer properties and select the maintenance tab. Run the deep cleaning function and print the test pattern up to 3 times to get a good printout. If that doesn't work you may need to reset the print count chip. Advanced technology Original ink cartridges use their "Smart Chip" to limit the number of prints. CLICK HERE to see an example. If you are still having problems the printhead itself may need to be cleaned manually. If you get to this stage message back and I will give detailed instructions.

See the manufacturer's web-site:

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp610#Specifications

for specifications for your printer.

It says that it has a USB interface, and an optional BlueTooth interface.

If you have that optional interface, then you do have "wireless" capability, if your computer itself also has BlueTooth capability.

The following may work: remove all the ink supplies. Remove the printhead and soak it for about 5 minutes in 0.5" of very hot water. Gently blot the printhead on a soft damp paper towel to remove the excess water, then replace in the printer and then reinstall the ink supplies.

It means the cartridge mechanism is jammed. It could be caused by dried ink, dried gear fluid or a paper jam. Open up the printer and give the cartridge holder a little nudge. If you see any foreign objects eg. shreds of paper inside, remove it.

When you said you used the cleaning utility 30 times, it reminded me that cleaning can only be done a few tims before ink is depleted.

When you said that you changed the cartridge and got nothing, it reminded me that one should remove the clear tape on the cartridge before installing the new cartridge, or else no print out will be seen.

If a new cartridge is installed and it still does not print out magenta, then the printer may require service at canonusa.com:

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam. Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.As a Canon technology,I usually find the code almost 90% of the time it is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods etc.
I have found all those things in a purge unit. The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.A
Canon Pixma MP610 would still be under Canon warranty, get it into a shop and save yourself the hassel.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model & its always a paper path error or purge unit
I forget myself so here goes, the purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP,lexmark & other ink jet printers,is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing. That is why you 'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it. It also has a an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow

hi there!

turn the printer off, unplug the power cord and check the rollers, if you can reach, clean it with lint-free cloth damped with water (just water!) and wipe the rollers.let it dry first before you turn it back on. i also hope you're using genuine canon inks otherwise, it will have those problems aswell. also check on the canon printer software installed, look for maintenance or tools, and run "clean printhead (or cartridge, depends on what version the software is). =)

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

5100 is a carriage error, check the timing strip for contamination(plastic strip about 1/4" in width)
The unit is not homing, check for obstructions.

1. hold RESUME then press & hold POWER
2. release RESUME, then press it twice, the light should go amber then green again.
3. you're now in service mode (you can release POWER now)

I think waste tank reset is 4 presses of the RESUME button. To confirm, press POWER once.

You might try changing preferences in control panel. The defualt for most photo printers is color since that is the most used feature (and sells the most expensive ink!). I finally bought an HP 1000 to use for everyday printing of documents and business items becuase it only needed black and white ink.

Unplug it, flip it over, and shake it until it drops out. If not keep track of screws you remove and where they came from or take it to best buy

I see no one has replied. I have the same issue, and the only info is the manual saying contact Canon service.

Trying to do that, they want the serial number which they make way too hard to get. Why can't the online manual provide it?

What type of document are you trying to print(PDF, MS Word doc, etc)?
Is the printer connected via USB cable, Bluetooth?

First thing I would do is try printing a different document or even a different type of document.
If printing different documents results in the same problem then I would uninstall the current drivers, download the latest drivers from Canon, then install those drivers and try printing again.
Also, if the printer is connected to your computer via USB cable verify the cable has no exposed wiring or try a different USB cable.

Uninstall and re-install the printer and that should fix the problem.

Here's the way to change ink in the MP610. Its pretty straightforward, and I have tried to give you pretty comprehensive instructions below. However, you can download the instruction manual for the MP610 off their website if you still have trouble after reading the following:
Instructions for when ink tank runs out of ink in Canon Pixma MP610
1. Open Paper Output tray (finger fits in rounded indent in the Paper Output tray--open gently
2. Make sure machine is on and lift the Scanning Unit cover which will uncover the ink tanks. Once unit is opened the print head holder will move to the center automatically.
3. When/if you leave the scanner unit open for a while, the print head holder will move back to the right, but you can move it to the center as in the action described in 2 by repeating the opening of the scanner lid sequence. Whatever you do, DON'T move it yourself if it doesn't come into the center automatically. Do wait until the ink tank holder stops!
4. Open the inner cover and remove the empty ink tank(s) the empty one/ones will be flashing fast-(red light) so it will be easy to see which one to remove. If you have more than one empty tank to replace, make sure to do them one at a time.
5. Removing the packaging from the new tank by peeling off the orange tape in the direction of the arrow and make sure it is completely off and then.remove the orange protective cap.
6. Snap the new tank in place so it is in the same position as the one you just removed. The ink lamp will light up red when you press down firmly on the little square icon and you will also hear it snap into place.
7. Follow the same steps as in 5 and 6 for each additional tank you need to replace.
8. When you have replaced all the tanks with new ones, close the inner cover and then make sure to close the scanning unit cover.
The machine will automatically perform the print head cleaning cycle, so be patient. Once all the noise stops you are good to go!
