When I turn on the printer, the alarm flashes and it displays the message:
" Check ink
U 163"
I have replaced the black cartrige with a new one, but I can't overcome the problem. What should I do?
Press and hold the 'Reset' button down for 5 + seconds.

No paper jammed but it shows alarm.
Forcing a piece of cardstock as far into the feed as I could, then removing it fixed this problem for me.
Hopefully it will work for you!

Is it possoble to print black images only ie office documents, without going through the extra expense of buying a colour ink cartridge??? There is an empty one in the printer already.
If you right click the printer in the Printers section of the control panel and select printer preferences, there should be a tab called maintenance. In this tab, you should find a setting called Ink Cartridge Settings. Once you click on this setting, click black cartridge only. This should allow the printer to only use the black ink and therefore you won't need color.
If you have any other questions or this doesn't solve your issue, let me know.

I'm new to this business and a friend of mine has a Canon MX300 printer which keeps on reporting a paper jam message. Initially, a paper had jammed inside and they just pulled it out but now it keeps saying paper jam even after we opened and cleaned the inside. How can I clear this error messaged?
I have the same problem - every time I turn on my printer now, the alarm signal shows up with "Paper jam" but when I check for jammed paper, there is none. So I think there's something faulty with the printer. Is there any way to reset it? I've looked everywhere but can't find it.

have canon MX300 All in One have had printer cartridges refilled professionally, worked few times now the alarm light is on and when try to print comes up with ink cartridges cannot be recognized.
Tried to scan and comes up with Printer Maintenance is in progress. Scan after it is complete... Code 2,114,0
Tried all manually and also have taken cartridges out and refitted still not working
Cheers
Louise
You might try a hard reset of printer along with uninstalling and reinstalling the software for the printer.
If nada, you might give Canon a call and ask their techies for their feedback on situation.

check ink u163 error message
Firstly I suspect you are not using genuine cartridge or you have refilled the cartridge.
To fix this you need to disable the ink checking procedure.
Do you know that low ink or ink has run out
message appears once cartridge empty. If you want to use refill ink in
that cartridge then you need to deactivate ink level to get your
printer run as usual. Check the following tips to fix low ink error
message in case of refill ink usage. Below some methods to deactivate
ink level detection function for some models due to its similarity.

canon mx300 states error 5100 check printer. when you open top cartridge does not move to the left to acess to replace ink. Help
Hi You can Try 2 things.
ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your cartridges carriage that disables it from moving. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.
If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there
Next try.
It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire.
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.
Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.
