You might try a hard reset of printer along with uninstalling and reinstalling the software for the printer. If nada, you might give Canon a call and ask their techies for their feedback on situation.

on the test print paper there should be a set of numbers there (prints automatically after align print head is done), these will need to be added into the prompt that comes up in screen after "set value" shows up, but unless a major rebuild has just been done to machine I find this is rarely needed to be done < I just select skip or done to exit that mode

open the top and check for any loose paper jams.then use some alcohol on a q-tip to clean all the rollers.

Have you downloaded or installed the full software for it? If so can you open the program first and initiate the scan from it?

sometime my printer does the same, print something and see how the black color is, if it is printing or it is the color ink that needs to replace also. i just keep printing until the ink get real light then i change them.

The fix for that error simply says to open the door by hand. If that doesn't fix the issue you need to contact a service center.

This may sound silly, but make sure your cables are fully connected to the printer and your power cable is plugged in to the electrical outlet. If printing is skewed, feeding multiple pages or jamming, please follow these instructions (use a regular letter size paper to test after doing the steps given below): Please check to ensure there is nothing obstructing the paper feed mechanism down inside the printer where it is not easily seen. If there is nothing obvious, unplug the printer and remove the paper. Open the front cover and look above the steel rod. You should see a conveyor belt with rubber teeth on it, like a fan belt. Take the bottom part of that belt and move it gently to the left. The cartridges should come out with it. Make sure the cartridges can move fully from one side of the printer to the other. Check also the output rollers on the bottom of the printer for any blockage. If it is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot. Turn the printer off. Next take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the paper feed slot (The manual paper feed slot is preferred, but the automatic feed will do if there is no manual paper feed for this printer) until it comes completely through the printer to the back of the exit rollers. Move it up and down and slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate this may work it loose or you may have to feed the envelope through the front rollers and push your way backward (please be careful here). Next, take a damp warm cloth and clean the rubber rollers in the automatic sheet feeder. Dust may be coating the rollers there and as they become less tacky, they cannot feed paper correctly. Finally, turn the printer upside down and carefully shake it for 10 to 20 seconds to see if something falls out of the paper feed path. Then plug the printer back up, take your paper out and replace it with a fresh, small stack (about 5 pages) of paper. Quickly bend the stack in an 'S' shape a few times to separate pages. Make sure it is lined up on the right side of the paper feed and the paper guide on the left is snug on the left side of the paper. Then try to form feed again. If that works, then try to print again.

Remove the paper, use a cloth and isopropyl alcohol, clean the rollers carefully, let dry insert paper neatly in tray to the stop.

Sadly not. The cartridge error will have to be resolved before you can use the scanner/fax. You do not however have to have a full cartridge installed, the printer just needs to be able to recognise the cartridge.

U051 indicates an ink cartridge that cannot be recognised by the printer. Sadly you cannot use your printer while this error remains.I would advise the following:-Remove the problem cartridge from the printer-Wipe the gold contacts on the front of the cartridge with a piece of non fibrous tissue (like kitchen tissue).-Re-install the cartridge.If the error remains it is likely that there is a genuine problem with the cartridge. So I would advise re-installing whichever cartridge you had in the printer before the error began to show or purchasing a new ink cartridge.
