try this... set your camera to video recorder mode, press Menu, press right arrow once, Audio should be highlighted in orange and should be on... if not, press Set then select On...

Usually you just plug it into the PC and turn it on and the PC recognizes it as a camera device.

Not telling us what brand, model and OS off the phone does not help, not telling us what model camera you have only increases the difficulty to answer this. Please give more details, included what you want to achieve, why, (because you saw it in a manual, or just because you would like it and you are not sure it is possible) and what you already tried.

You mean an new cable with a new mini USB connector? Most camera's use an mini USB connector. try another cable, one you use with your phone or MP3 player, at least if the connector is the same.

That depends on the amount of internal memory, the compression rate, and the type of picture. Do you have a particular model camera in mind?
