Recording problem with LG RH266 Recorder..
Just bought unit. Had same problem.Tried lots of different types of disks with no luck. Tried to play already written +R disk. Worked OK. Then took out and replaced with blank -R. Came up with new screen asking me if I wanted to initialize disk. Answered yes and it took about 20 seconds. Then tried to DUB from HDD to DVD again. This time it came up with the dubbing menu, I hadn't seen before, and worked.
Hardly ideal, but the trick was to get it to recognise it as a blank and initialize. Currently burning my first disk. Didnt realise about 'FAST' mode, so taking ages.

HDD locked?
Have you tried resetting the recorder to it's default settings either through the menu or by pressing and holding the power button while unplugging it. After unplugging leave it of for a few minutes and then turn it on again.

I have an Lg 265 which has stopped reading RW
It may be possible to obtain a replacement laser assembly, but be warned, it could be expensive (not just the part, but the fitting and alignment involved). If your local service centre says they cannot repair this unit, they are correct in one aspect - lasers are not repairable - they must be replaced. I suggest that you take the unit somewhere else if you can (preferably an authorised LG service agent), get a quote, and a second opinion on the likely cost(s) involved, time it will take etc., then you can make a firm decision as to whether it is economical to fix or not - up to you.
Fitting a new laser in a DVD recorder is a time-consuming task and should only be undertaken by a skilled, qualified technician in a fully equipped workshop; this cannot be done by the user in the home. Make sure once the job is completed, that you get a written guarantee on any work done to your unit.
Because this is a DVD recorder, you should be able to get it serviced, but it will cost a bit, so be prepared for that if you go ahead.

My dvd wont turn on
Hi:
Take the top off the unit and check the AC fuse for an open condition, The fuse is near where the power cord enters the unit. If the fuse is blown then there is a problem in the primary side of the power supply.

My LG RH266 does not recognize DVDs anymore.
It may just be a dirty lens. If you feel up to it, you'll need at least two different-sized philips-head screwdrivers, rubbing alcohol, and a Q-tip or two. Open the whole thing up and remove the shell for the DVD-ROM by removing the (normally) two small screws that hold the top on. Take a little bit of alcohol and apply it to the Q-tip. Wipe the Q-tip against the lens a few times and then use the dry end to soak up any excess.
