What does it do if you unhook the flat cables going from the tcon to the panel, does the blinking go away and do you have sound then?

You have a couple of problems if you are sure there are 2 different blink codes. 13 blinks indicates a backlight balancer error which would explain your no light condition. 14 blinks would be a TCON board error which is the driver board for the LCD screen. Either error would keep the screen black.

Thats usually caused by bad flex tab bonds on the LCD panel itself. If you search for flex tab issues vidoes it will show how the pisture can get slow motion in areass as well as double images in that area.

The cost of the repair would be quite close to a purchase of a new same size TV. It is safe to use unless you start to hear crackling noises which indicates short circuitingGood Luck Ed Pinero

Sounds like a back light failure. To verify this, turn on the set, dim the lights in room. Shine a bright flash light on the screen, if you see a faint picture on the screen, you have a back light failure. You either have a blown back lamp, 24v circuit fault, or a failed inverter board.

Sounds like a bad LCD panel tab. Sony and Samsungs are notorious for that. Just search Youtube for "bad LCD tabs", and you will see videos of the actual problem and symptoms.

If remote has the aspect button it will do this depending on signals--some boxes preset the aspect for the signal they are outing to your TV---4x3 for example may not be able to be switched to full or 16x9.

Sorry I did not understand what you meant by movement has trailers. Do you mean that you can see a faint image in the back ground or can see the image if flash light on the screen? It sounds like a backlight inverter problem, but I just want to be sure so that I can help you order the replacement parts and fix it.

This issue is related to a power problem in as much as the TV turns off on it's own.

The problem is consistent with overheating on the power supply board of the TV.

The power supply board of the TV has few capacitors and IC. If any of these IC's gets short or become weak, it can cause the TV to turn off on it's own.

When current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV. The current also goes to the weak/faulty part, then the current stops or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off on it's own.

This is a common problem faced by many other users too. To solve this issue, check the power supply board and read it with a meter and continuity tester, in order to detect the faulty part and replace the faulty part on the board which is short due to which power supply board

It's a bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician.

You can buy these part at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a refurbished complete power board to save you some stress.

This is not a good news. There could be few probabilities, however more often on this set it is either faulty T conn board ( LCD control board ) or faulty mainboard. As it is already 3 years old, so it is already out of warranty. I would advise you to continue the TV as it is, however if the situations worsens, you need to call onsite technician to repair it. Be advised on most occasions, due to the cost of these parts, sometimes it is better to invest in used TV or a new TV.

(in order of probability):

1. Backlight inverter
2. Power Supply
3. Backlight

Please seek the expertise of an experienced TV repair technician - as they contain potentially lethal voltages that must be properly discharged before work can begin.

I'm afraid, it is problem of LCD Panel (screen) and it is very expensive part, replacement would cost you more then new tv price.
I'm sorry for breaking this news but have to say facts about problem.

I have the same problem. I have the Sony Bravia KDL-40S4100. I can't get it off channel 2. It won't work with the remote, and it won't work on buttons on the top of the console either. The power button on the remote is still able to turn the TV on and off, but aside from that, everything else is frozen.
