Proscan 42LA30H 42 in. LCD Television - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Who makes proscan tv?
Proscan is produced by ON Corp. They are a leading producer for most LCD screens used by a large group of TV makers. Proscan used to be a high end RCA product. The CEO of On Corp was the head of the Proscan division of RCA. After Leaving RCA and Beginning On Corp he purchased the right to the Proscan trade mark. Thus a new beginning for a old name. Many people still belive it to be an RCA TV but it is not. It has good ratings in most reviews for TV's in it price range. It is now a sears brand much like Dynex is a Best But brand.
Proscan tv flickering
My proscan did this. I took off the back. Spotted the buldged capacitor. Went to Fry's to find a replacement. They didn't have one but they referred me to someone down the street. Called, he had it. Cost like 2 bucks. Got a soldering kit for 15 bucks. Removed and replaced. And it's like brand new again! 4 years later, the main board is going out :/ that's not so cheap.
Proscan tv volume problems
hi i'd check the speakers first, test the ohms with a multimeter if ok you could have a bad amp ic on the main board, or a faulty capacitor, thanks

Proscan 40' 40LC45S has a high pitched hum when it
Same problem here, there is a high-pitched sound in standby. As soon as
the light turns blue and the TV is on it's gone. I actually exchanged
this TV three times at Best Buy but all the models made the same buzz
in standby. I was told that it's normal and in the store you can't hear
it since there is too much humming from other TVs around. The power is
transformed down to a minimum, just for the remote controls, internal
clock etc. and this causes the buzz, like when you dim your lights at
home. I hooked it up to a surge-protector for clean power and just
switch it off over night. During the day it's hard to hear anyway. -
Again, since this is my third (!) Proscan 40' exchange I can definitely
say that this is normal for this model. I was just surprised that
nobody mentioned the same problem so far on the Best Buy reviews.

Sound not working
Hi,
there
are so many reasons why your TV won't bring out sound. You need to
troubleshoot first, in order to get to the root of the problem, before a
solution can be proffered.
First, connect a DVD player to the
TV, observe if there is going to be sound. If there is still no sound
after connecting the DVD player to the TV, proceed to the next step.
"The reason why I asked you to connect a DVD player to the TV is to
confirm if the problem is simply not from the audio cord connected to
the TV."
Second, get an headset, connect it to the earphone jack
of the TV and observe if there is going to be sound. If there is no
sound, then it is glaring now that your TV is having a defective sound
card/IC that's why it is not bring out any sound. (Note that connecting
an headset to your TV is optional because not all TV's has a space for
headset). "The reason why I asked you to connect an headset to the TV is
to also confirm if problem is not from the TV speaker. Though TV
speaker problems are rare but sometimes, the TV speaker might be
defective or the speaker wires may have loosed contact or cut into two,
due to one reason or the other. But if the headset doesn't bring out any
sound from the TV, then it is not so."
If none of the above
seems not to be the cause of the problem, then the above troubleshooting
has confirmed that the TV has got a defective sound card/ic. The sound
IC/card of the TV has to be replaced for the TV to bring out sound
again.
To be honest with you, replacing or fixing the sound card/ic of your TV requires the ability or experience to do so.
Now,
if you are convinced you can fix or replace this yourself, please reply
so that i can help you further. And make sure you troubleshoot first,
before getting back to me.
Regards.
Screen is like a strobe
Hi.
Problem is inverter, backlight or PSU. The backlight lamps that illuminate the LCD display are flashing. This creates the "kind of strobe" effect that you see. There are several possible causes for the problem.
The lamps themselves are defective. The lamps do not fire up completely and keep flashing. The lamps are not sold alone but they are part of the LCD display. If the lamps are gone the TV is not worth repairing.
The inverter is the high voltage board that supplies the backlight lamps. If the inverter is defective it can still be replaced. Testing is done reading DC in, checking high voltage out, and using an oscillator to test the phase of the AC out signal generated by the inverter oscillator section.
PSU or main controllers may be defective. This will less common in case of flashing back-light. Test this if the inverter is OK and if the problem is DC voltage input to inverter.
