Was playing music very loud for a couple of hours

Put a fork in it, it's done.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads. Check for loose speaker connections.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

While I'm watching TV through my Yamaha HTR 3063,

Hi,
Well, it can be one of two things:
a One of the HDMI cables or
b The receiver HDMI interface.

I have heard is said from more than one source that Poor HDMI cables are a headache, even if
new.

Here is a procedure you can try out.

1 Connect up the Plasma to the DVR directly with each cable alternately until
you find a defective one that demonstrates the same problem you are showing
with the receiver connected. If it doesn't manifest the problem go to step 2

2 Get a can of compressed air, such as the small cans sold for dusting out computers.
(about 5 dollars at Walmart). Visually inspect each of the HDMI connectors on the back of your receiver. You may find a pet hair that is the culpret. BLOW all the connectors clean with the can of air.

3 Reassemble you system and see if it still manifests the same problem. If it does, go to
step 4.

4 Time to find out if your warranty is still in effect with Yamaha. If it is, great, if not, Oh well.
Contact them anyway. They may still help you if it is very recently out of warranty.
I hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

The reciever is telling me

So what have you done? Disconnect all the spaker cables and see if it stops showing the message. Then attach one set at a time and see what happens. It implies a direct short is present.

My Yamaha HTR-6030 feeds all

check the balance settings in both the device that you get the audio signal from and the Yamaha ...If the signal is only on one channel its usually from this cause...If the balance is on the middle ..it means that the right cable or output is damaged..or not well plugged..
If it is a computer that you get the signal from ...select the right configuration from the sound manager ..and in the speaker configuration feature you will find the exact out-lets that has to be used for output signal by colors...according with each configuration you use..
If you use a single stereo cable to get the signal ..than the issue is from the Yamaha's settings for either balance or channel..

I can't get surround sound to work on my HTR-6030.

Check that the Blueray isn't set to downsample to stereo. Your receiver could also be set on stereo. Do you have a "sound" button where you can cycle through different modes?

Will not stay on

gwm_inc, Please verify all speakers work or are not shorting the outputs of this Yamaha 100w/ch amp. Also this unit could have bad capacitors and or failed output transistors if the speaker terminals or connecting cables get shorted. I would guess that the power supply is detecting a FAULT condition and is shutting itself down to prevent a catastrpohic, nonrecoverable failure event!! Best shot would be to have a technician evaluate unit. 12fixlouie

Zone front and Zone B?

A and B is for two sets of front speakers. Which one you choose for surround sound depends on which terminals for front speakers included in a surround sound setup that you actually plugged your speakers into.

Terminal B is designated for the output of sound to a second "zone" ie; another room for example, if you have another set of front speakers connected to it.

Speaker wires accidentally touched.

it sounds like the cone in the centre has blown. Use a 'spare speaker' not one from the system and try it, is should work, but if it was the centre speaker cable that shorted, should you get no sound from the spare it sounds like you have blown that part of the system which will require professional repair. Sorry

I have no TV box but do have cable, how do I hook

For watching TV, your TV should have a monitor out. This will go to your CBL/Sat input on the receiver. If you have a newer TV, it will have an optical output,if you use that, you will have Dolby Digital surround when available, and digital stereo at all other times. For the VCR and DVD, if they are separate units, Run audio video from the VCR to the receiver to VCR 1, for the DVD, use Component video and optical or digital coaxial to the receiver. Then from the receiver run component video to the TV. If you need further help, post a comment and I will help you further. Hope this helps

I have RX V861 and want to operate my sony blu ray

Try any older Sony DVD player code like the DVP-CX995. Sony has had the same basic codes for years. You will be missing blue, green, yellow, and red buttons since they are not available on the remote.
For a true one button solution check out the MX-900.

When playing ps3 picture will black out

If your running HDMI, run your HDMI directly to the TV and use digital coaxial or optical for audio to the receiver. Your firmware in the receiver is not compatable with all the new RIAA audio and video codecs in version 1.3b your receiver is 1.1 or 1.2 and is not upgradeable. It's not Yamaha or any other MFG's problem it's the recording industry and copyright protection that's messing up HDMI. Hope this helps

There is a headphone sign

Hello. I can assist you. First of all, in case you don't have the manual, here it is to download for free if you choose

http://static.tigerdirect.com/pdf/Yamaha-HTR-6130BL-Manual.pdf

Go to page 36 and you will see this paragraph

Enjoying multi-channel sources and
sound field programs with headphones
(SILENT CINEMA)
SILENT CINEMA allows you to enjoy multi-channel
music or movie sound, including Dolby Digital and DTS
sources, through ordinary headphones. SILENT CINEMA
is automatically activated whenever you connect
headphones to the PHONES jack while listening to sound
field programs (except for 2ch Stereo and Music Enh. 2ch)
(see page 34). When SILENT CINEMA is activated, the
SILENT CINEMA indicator lights up in the front panel
display.

THEREFORE, when you plug in your headphones all other speakers are bypassed.
