While I'm watching TV through

Hi,
Well, it can be one of two things:
a One of the HDMI cables or
b The receiver HDMI interface.

I have heard is said from more than one source that Poor HDMI cables are a headache, even if
new.

Here is a procedure you can try out.

1 Connect up the Plasma to the DVR directly with each cable alternately until
you find a defective one that demonstrates the same problem you are showing
with the receiver connected. If it doesn't manifest the problem go to step 2

2 Get a can of compressed air, such as the small cans sold for dusting out computers.
(about 5 dollars at Walmart). Visually inspect each of the HDMI connectors on the back of your receiver. You may find a pet hair that is the culprit. BLOW all the connectors clean with the can of air.

3 Reassemble you system and see if it still manifests the same problem. If it does, go to
step 4.

4 Time to find out if your warranty is still in effect with Yamaha. If it is, great, if not, Oh well.
Contact them anyway. They may still help you if it is very recently out of warranty.
I hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

Yamaha HTR-6030. Using two optical cables

Please don't panic and think that there is anything wrong with your Yamaha receiver. A lot of people are having this problem with set top box reception. Time lag / phase differences caused by satellite transmission can make your Receivers digital decoders go nuts !!!.The working principal is too complex to explain on this page. I have had clients call up and say on some channels only one speaker works in a 5.1 setup !!!!.You noticed DD and DTS signals are working fine.

My amplifier cuts out and

Hi there,

It simply means to check your (sp)eaker cables. It is likely that one of your speaker cables is damaged or not correctly connected. This is causing an overload in the receiver and the cut-out indicates the receiver has gone into 'self-protect' mode, to prevent damage to the internal components.

This could happen if you have cross-wired + and - to one or more of the speakers. It could also be that a cable to one of the speakers has been partially severed and +/- are shorted together or it could be as simple as one of the speaker connections having become detached. Speaker connections are polarised positive + and negative - the same as your household electrics and need to be wired to the correct poles.

To fix this problem, you should initially check all of the speaker connections at both the receiver and speaker ends. Make sure everything is properly connected and that + and - on the receiver are correctly wired to + and - on all speakers. If all of the connections are correct and the error message persists, disconnect each speaker one at a time, reset the receiver and test again.

If you disconnect a particular speaker and the error message no longer appears, you have found the cause of the problem. Examine the cable for any sign of damage and replace the cable. If there is no visible damage, it is still advisable to replace the cable for this speaker as damaged cables are not always visible to the eye.

Please check all of your speakers as above, then let me know if you need further assistance. The message could be erroneous and may indicate a fault with the receiver.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric.

Just clicks off 10 sec after you turn it on. Then

Disconnect all your speaker wires at the receiver and turn back on, if you get the same result, it's a transistor and several caps. Cost range from 150-225 depending on the shop. If it stays on, post a comment and I will walk you thru troubleshooting further.

I have my HTR 6030

Hi there,

If you only have sound from the front left and right speakers when it's set to STRAIGHT, it means the audio source is only 2 channel stereo. As the audio source is from Blu-Ray, the audio should be HD if you are using the correct type of audio cable.

I really need more information from you to give a definitive answer. If you are only using a RCA type audio cable (red/white plugs) from the Blu-Ray to the Yamaha receiver then you will only get left and right front channels on the STRAIGHT setting. This receiver does not have HDMI, so you really need to be using a digital optical audio cable to get true 5.1.

Please can you let me know how the BD player is connected to the Yamaha receiver if you need further assistance.

Thanks,
BElectric
