The amp protection circuit was actived - what should we do?

Remove all speaker wires from the receiver and turn it on.

If it still goes into protect, I'll bet the house that one of the channels is shorted out and it needs repair. This is a job for a pro.

If it doesn't go into protect, check for a short in the speaker wire or for a bad speaker.

Use JBL Creature speakers (pc speakers) through tv

There may be a setting in the TV's menu to set fixed or variable output for the rca's. You want variable. Some have two sets of audio outputs for fixed and variable. Depends on the TV. Check those two things. If no help let me know what the TV is and we'll see what we can do.

Abrsvcs HELP still out there?

Sorry about the delay, I did not see this posting.

The other speaker configs utilize the surround processing section. In stereo, the surround processor is bypassed. Based upon your brief description, I would think that the surround processing section is producing DC voltage which is detected by the output section forcing the unit into protect mode. This is not a problem that is easily diagnosed remotely. One thing to chech, if you can, is the power regulators on the surround board. Make sure that the solder connections are good. If they are OK, then I would suggest that you get a detailed estimate from a local service shop. Report the results here and we'll work through the actual repair.

Blinking standby button

Hi...1st off ...make sure all the speakers are connected at both ends.
2nd..buy a new cat..one that doesnt drool.
If it's still stays in Stdby after checking speakers, It might have blown an internal fuse cause thats where those darn stereo people put them now.

I have a 37" Sony

Hello, There is an update for your TV at Sony Support and I would strongly  recommend to call Sony Support to update your TV as firmware updating firmware is risky job for novice and TV firmware can be damaged and TV will shut down.

Zone 2 sound

actually, the zone 2 for onkyo receivers are built to only react to analog sources so if a device is hooked up using digital cables, the zone 2 will not pick it up. if you want to listen to a source in zone 2, you would have to hook up a red and white RCA cable.

HDMI Audio from receiver to TV cuts out?

Try to power cycle your unit (unplug it from the power outlet for about 5 sec) and try to swap your cables and inputs. After doing that if the problem is still there reset the unit back to it's default by pressing and holding the VCR/DVR button and tap the stand by button at the same time that's resetting the unit but just to remind you it is going to erase all the settings of your receiver therefore you have to reassign the inputs again. After these procedures if problem still there you need to have the unit looked at. Hope this one helps you.
