Can't help you on what is wrong with the player but to get the dvd out, look for a small hole near the dvd drawer opening. Use a straightened paper clip or a straight pin and insert into opening. This should release the drawer to eject the dvd.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the manual in the link you posted, and from Google image searching to look closely at the remote, it doesn't appear to be a universal. The only way you can control your TV with it would be via the DVD player hooked into the TV, and then you will still only be able to control the standard functions of the DVD player (i.e. pause/play, stop, FF/Rew, menus, subtitles, etc.) but not the functions of the TV (i.e. volume, channel, power, etc.).
