There is no water shooting out. The brushes are going, but when i hit the trigger that releases the water, nothing happens.I've only used this 4 or five times and i tried cleaning it out, but still nothing.
The screw that is located in the center of the handle, that holds the assecory hose holder must be tight. My screw was missing, put one in and cured the problem. Sounds stupid but it worked. Got this idea off the Bissell web site. Also if you have a pump belt it may need replacing. The cover is on the side of the machine. Go to the Bissell web site and look up by your model # and name of machine. There are several quick fixes that you can do yourself. Why pay for expensive repairs when the Bissell site will help you for free. Good luck.

I have a bissell carpet cleaner and the brushes don't rotate - the belts appear to be in place- need other options to look for
Make sure you have released the handle, as if you wanted to push the machine forward. If the handle is locked upright, the brushes do not spin.
If they still don't spin, you may have a broken belt. Look carefully at the base, on each side. As I face the front of mine, on the right side of the machine, a small belt goes around one brush and a small cog wheel. On the left side, a larger belt goes around both brushes. If either belt is broken, the brushes will not spin. This can happen if you let gunk build up inside the clear plastic side pieces or around or above the brushes. It's very important to constantly be cleaning your Bissell. The belts can be ordered online and replaced. See your owner's manual.

i had taken off the clear front cover of my bissell powerbrush after i used it last time to clean it out. I screwed the piece back on and put it away. when i just took it out to use it again, i filled up the water, and put the soap in.. i turned it on and the water releases into the carpet, but won't **** it back up when i pull it back.
had same problem - carpet soaked with dirty water and very little, if any, cleaning fluid used. Easily remedied. Removed water resevoir and found that the rectangular shaped washer at the top of the front cover (the bit you had unscrewed to give a good clean) had become dislodged. It has small lugs on either size which lock on to the plastic opening when pushed down firmly. Resevoir then sits on top and makes full connection, also ensure that grey locking handle is fully pushed down.
Seemed to me that the water wasn't being sucked up as there was air getting in and this has down the trick. Sorry if this is difficult to follow but all will become clear when you look for the black washer! Good luck

I've had the machine for about 10 years and can't find the instructions. It's model 1680-3. The new ones don't have the powerbrush. Does that matter?
I recently did a Google search an owners manual for my inlaw's Bissell. I just googled your 168-3 and found a manual, hope it is the right one,

I have a Bissell Pro Heat 2X carpet cleaner and the brushes spin, then stop. I turn it off and when I re-start, the brushes do not spin until I push foreward. The it spins and stops again. Both belts are tight. The brushes spin if held above the carpet, but upon contact with carpet it stops. Same thing on a hard surface.
The reason for the brushes to stop when it is above any surface is there is a switch in the handle that stops the brushes so it dont burn your motor up it may have a faulty switch.

The tools work fine but no spray on floor/carpet. I've checked and the belt is not broken. The water container was full as was the shampoo bottle, and all in place ready to go. I've checked and double checked to ensure everything is set in place to commence carpet cleaning. I tried switching machine off and leaving for a short while to prime the pump but to no avail. Am now running out of ideas of what to try next. Can anyone please throw any light on my problem???
The tubes inside the machine are probably clogged. Dismantle top hood and disconnect the three lines at the pump, open up entire top housing and inspect heater. Disconnect two tubes and heater and blow out with air compressor. That will spray all the junk, soap that has built up and your machine will be good as new. If you can't do this yourself, contact bissell and ask where your local repair center is

my bissell proheat 12amp is not spraying water
Pumps are a very common problem on these units. check pump belt first and make sure spray jets above the brushroll are not clogged. Most likely have to replace the pump. If you need me to walk you through this or need parts let me know.
