I struggled with this issue for a while and finally found a post that helped me. Hold menu and the center buttons until the iPod turns off. Yes, well the exact thing it happening to me. What you could do and see if it works is this: Turn the Screen Lock on, off, and hold the center button and the Menu button. This will hard reset the iPod and use the origonal settings from when you first got your iPod. The second Tip: Take off all of the software, songs, games, ect. in iTunes and reset ALL the settings in iTunes. If this doesn't doesnt work (which it should), your iPod is broken and you need a new click wheel or center button.
