Try another SD card. Try formatting the card before putting it in the camera. Make sure all the contacts for the SD card are clean.

As the camcorder is more than 30 years old it probably requires refurbishing and replacement of all electrolytic capacitors to get it to work.

They don't like moisture on the heads. Remove battery, remove tape(?), leave it somewhere warm, like your hot tank cupboard for 24 hours, charge the battery and try again. Make sure the tape is warm and dry as well.

Not knowing the make of the camcorder makes it a little more difficult to help. Are the cassettes upon which you are trying to record in Write-Protect mode, by any chance ?

Do you see any indicator light? If so than it is probably a faulty switch. if not it will probably require further digging like a blown cap.

The 'lock' is on the actual card itself, not the camera. Remove the card, set the switch on the side to the unlock position, then re-insert the card.
