Lg dvd combo won't power up
Some one needs to at least if no power light open the unit and look for a fuse--if power light is there and will not function at all it may or may not be economical to repair this unit.

Will not play most dvds
- Hi, I can help.
- Sounds like the lens is just really dirty. Go buy a leans cleaner disk and run it through the DVD player two or three times to get the lens good and clean. Repeat about once a month to keep the lens clean and running properly.
- These disks I speak of have little bristles on it that "sweep" the lens clean. I use them on all my disk players and they work real well.
- If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
- Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.
Regards,
Tony

When utilizing the DVD player
The new recorder comes with security systems in it - when it encounters programs that have a "Do not Copy" signal on them it will refuse to work. This is how it's designed to work, there's nothing you can do to change that. BTW , even if you could do that it would have been illegal - recording a copy-protected program is considered by the lawyers of the channel in question as piracy .
The older one didn't do that because it didn't had the security system.

I have an LG RC797T.
Yes, you can connect another VCR to the LG's video & audio input jacks and record from the external VCR. You may have to select the line input from the menu to activate these inputs.

I'm assuming you are referring to using the dish network remote to control your DVD/VCR unit. Use the instructions in your Dish Network manual, mine is on page 61, "Setting up using device code tables". Refer to the table of device codes in the back of the dish manual, pg 119, to look up your manufacturer. I used the DVD codes for LG as LG wasn't listed on DVD/VCR combo codes. Try each one until one works. I have the LG RC797T and the third code worked 824. Good luck!

LG797T. Used to play DVDs but now we can't use the
The problem with your unit is either a faulty laser or it could also be a faulty mpeg printed circuit board.
The way i would go about solving this issue if the unit is not under warranty is first try to clean the laser.
You can do this removing the case from the unit and if the laser is accessable, use a cue-tip or soft, clean cotton bud to gently wipe the 'eye' of the laser. Make sure to use clean and soft Cotton tips as you do not want to scratch the laser and cause further damage.
After you have done this you can test the unit without replacing the outer case, his will also give you a chance to see if the laser is lighting up to bright, concentrated red dot.
If this isnt happening you need to replace the laser. Nearly every LG product i have dealt with has a yellow or white sticker with a part number on it to make ordering another easy.
If it does not have locatable part number, refer to your local authorised repair agent as they will be able to either repair the unit for you or be able to source and obtain a 'DVD Deck Assembly', which is the entire setup that contains the laser, the drawer that the disc sitson as well as the spindle motors.
Replacing the DVD Deck Assembly is as straight foward as marking everthing you remove with a coloured marker, so you know where it ame from and being careful with any flat ribbon cables you may need to remove near or attached the laser
Good luck!

My RC797T is not recognizing some commercial DVDs
I had the same problem. Took it to a shop. They said the control chip under the DVD player was defective. It would cost more to fix than it was worth.
I think the design is defective. The DVD player probably gets too hot a the IC dies.

My LG combo player recorder will not read netflix dvd's
I had the same problem.
1. check that the disk region is the same as you unit ( it is the global of the world on the CD has a number in the middle, now check the back of your player. They must be same region.
2. Turn the unit on
3.Press the power button and hold for 10 Seconds
3. Turn the unit back on, wait for the time to display.
4. unplug the unit and leave unpluged for 30 seconds
5. plug the unit back in and turn it on, the time should not display should be blank.
6. Unit should go into startup wizard like it is being started for the the very first time. follow the prompts.
7. In the setup menue, I believe it is under disc settings, select set to factory settings.
Once I completed these, I put the netflix movie back in and it now runs,
Hope the same works for you
