All you have to do is take the base apart. Turn it upside down, and there are two plastic clips on the rear portion of the base. Press them in with a key or screwdriver and wiggle the base a bit to remove the inner portion from the outer shell. Make sure you unplug the unit and remove the cleaning cartridge before doing this. Once it is apart, place a small wedge underneath the portion of the electric contact that sticks out to touch the shaver, and press the back of that portion out so that it slightly bends the contact strip and makes it stick out a little further. Then remove the wedge and put the base back together. It will work again, as the contacts can now protrude to touch the shaver and run the cleaning and charging cycle.

To disassemble the 8000 Series shaver. Remove the plastic cover on the bottom that covers the corded socket. Be careful, there are a total of two tabs on the short sides and four very small tabs on the long sides. I usedmy fingernail to create a space big enough to insert the corner of a credit card in the center of the long side opposite the blue light indicator, then gently removed the cover. Using a screwdriver could damage the plastic. The two sides then pop off, they only fit on their respective side when replacing. Don't lose the two small black seals on the top of each side piece. There are a total of four screws holding the body together. Remove the screws, using the proper flat blade or torx screwdriver. The shaver will then split into. You can then remove the the Motor Drive Unit and the separate circuit board with the batteries. This would also be a good time to clean the goo buildup from around the shaver head. Assembly is the reverse of above. The Motor Unit will only fit in one way, there is a flat side and a angular side. Be sure the pin for the trimmer in placed in its proper hole, or it won't extend. It sounds like when the foil is on, there is something causing the blade to 'lock up'. My guess is that the cutter bar between the foils may be damaged and can not move. This would lock everything up. You can check it easily. Take off the foil and turn it over. There is a plastic piece in the middle that transfers the motion of the cutter to the bar betewwn the foils. You sould be able to easily move it back and forth with your finger. To install, you will first need to gently pry off the 'cap. on the bottom of the shaver that surrounds the hole where the cord plugs into to. You can use a small flat screwdriver or similar object to do this. Once it is removed, the side grips will pull away revealing 4 screws on the back. Remove screws to take off the back cover. The internal parts will then simply lift out. Reassemble in reverse order.

It is pretty common for the trimmer to get jammed up with hair particles and skin oils which can prevent the blade from moving.

Try running the blades of the trimmer in a shallow dish of rubbing alcohol. Then clean the blades vigorously with an old toothbrush or similar. If the blades still does not move try using the tip of a small flat screwdriver or similar object to push and advance the moveable blade. Repeat running in alcohol and brush clean

I just fixed it now .. when the cartridge is inside and full turn the whole bas upside-down for less than a sec .. ( while the power plug is disconnected ).. then try plugging and cleaning again

After dropping the razor it is very difficult to know what the problem is without examining it. Based on the symptoms you describe, I would guess that the the 'drive unit' is damaged. The shaver guard is tension locked. Make sure your pressing it down just hard enough so it clicks into the lock position. This will prevent it from falling off.
