There are some black highlighted buttons near the top of the remote control. These are your DEVICE SELECT buttons. Ensure you first push the button corresponding to the device you want to control, and then try to use the remote to control that device.

The fact that your remote can control the TV indicates that the remote itself is probably working fine. If you still cannot control your recorder after pressing the proper DEVICE SELECT button, then your recorder may have a fault in one of its control signal receiving circuit boards. If this is the case, it is unlike that it can be economically repaired. Since your recorder cannot function effectively without a working remote control capability, I recommend purchasing a whole new unit, preferably one of higher quality, such as a Sony product.

That sound is made by the platters of the disk rubbing on the reading heads - the hard disk is dead , it has destroyed itself. All the data is lost.
Sorry, there is absolutely nothing you or anyone can do about that.

Simple test: use a different system of connecting the player to the tv. If you have used the HDMI use the analogue ones (Composite video-yellow and audio -red and white) and the other way around. If your tv doesn't have HDMI then switch between the analogue outputs - Composite and S-video. Of course use another cables plugged in another sockets in the tv.
If it's the same then the defect is in the unit - the audio converter section from the main processor has failed. The only way of fixing that is by replacing the mainboard, which means that the unit is effectively dead, time for a new one.

Problem is either the lens or the potentiometer regulating the laser beam. You can try cleaning the lens with a cleaner disk, or you can access the lens directly by disassembling the unit.Here general directions on how to clean the lens: When you get no disk error.

If that does not work, then the problem is usually the laser regulation. In this units there is no potentiometer that can be tweaked. Regulation is done through an IC. In that case repair is done replacing the whole optical drive.

Please check the read surface of the disc you have already played on this player. Are there circular line on the surface. Best is to remove the top cover and observe if any foreign objects like sticker or paper is lodged in the loading tray. Also play with the sound off and see where the sound is coming from.

This device can tune in the digital channels, just that it can't decode them because it doesn't have an ATSC decoder in it.
Sorry, there is no way you can change that - you can't modify the mainboard to install one. All you can do is to buy an external convertor box and attach it to the AV inputs of the LG and set it to record from there. Something like

how long have you been using this player? Does the DVD recording play before now? And does it format disk?
If the answer is yes, then I don't think it is a driver(s) problem.

I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Your DVD drive is having a problem. When this recorder starts, it checks the DVD drive for correctness. If incase your DVD drive is has problem in the ejecting mechanism then this will prevent your HDD from working correctly. Take the player to service center and fix the drive

First test to see if this is happening with a particular DVD. Also go to sound settings and tes with different settings (test 5+1 if you have this configuration, and thest two speakers stereo in any case).

If problem occurrs with any DVD played, check the Center Speaker audio connection and working status. With surround settings the voice is often sent mostly to the center speaker. If speaker is malfunctioning you may get no or low voice audio signal.

The Laser Pickup Assembly is defective and must be replaced, the dvd discs require higher precision when it includes audio and video signals together, the only other possible way is attempt to clean the laser pickup lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol, but it is long shot.
