most of the LG RH177 have such problem...
...so my solutiong is changing the internal drive with the computer DVD-RW(IDE interface)but it need a lot of modification..
.. finally, i able to fit the computer dvd writer into it ....

it should be the internal HDD failure...befause the player fails to checking the HDD during starting up ...

For those users who just bought their machines, I would suggest warranty service. Roxanne2 should contact Philips directly with the seiral number, and they should be able to say which store they sold it to. That unit probably has a bad internal DVD writer drive.
The following solution should only be done if your machine is out of warranty unless you get permission from the manufacturer, as it will likely void the warranty otherwise:
Unplug the unit, disconnect all cables and move it to as static-free of an area as possible. Remove the cover, which usually means removing a lot of screws. Most DVD recorders have regular drives like you see in PCs. There is usually a tiny hole in the lower-right part of the drive that you can stick a small wire into, such as an unbent paper clip. You can then manually pull the drive open to get the DVD out.

once you have set timer record, you must then put machine in standby mode,once in standby mode you will have a little timer display in panel,should then come on when time to record

make sure you set dubbing speed to sp ,short play,thats the default setting,then go to start up menu and finalize disk

This is the Power Board for it. check those 6 electrolytic Capacitors on the right for bulging or splitting. Don't buy it blindly, it's a guess. It can't be done. The DVD remote will be single frequency for that device only and the LG remote for that LG Blu Ray (or series) only. Companies don't make cross-control between makers easy. The only exception is cable and satellite boxes to allow their remote to also control the television. If you would like to share any clues, yes. Checked power going in, I presume. Any indicator lights? If yes, how many times does it flash?
