Can't copy my disney vhs tapes to dvd

I'm assuming your Disney tapes are store-bought, as opposed to recorded off the air. If that's true, the reason you can't record them to your dvd recorder is because of copy-protection. Sorry...can't advise you how to break that.

Why won't the Sony controls let me click onto finalize using a Sony TV w/recoder to transfer VHS to DVD?

Is the VHS tape you are trying to record a commercial VHS tape (movie)? If so, it may have copy protection on it. The recorder is probably programmed to prevent you from making and using DVDs of commercial copy-protected VHS tapes.

Zenith xbr 716 will not play dvd videos

Some DVD players have limited firmware codecs so are very limited in the formats that they recognize. Some will only play .VOB which is a commercially burnt movie DVD format. Away around this, at the cost of trashing non-playing DVD's is to create short video clips then export to as many formats as your video software can render. Each clip should include the format & parameters or just an ID reference number in the video that you can list in a table. This may also involve tweaking frame rate, etc parameters. Then burn these 'test' clips to DVD's then note which ones play.

Insert DVD, closes, but opens

If I remember correctly, this unit has a little rubber belt that drives the DVD tray. When it ages, the rubber hardens and loses traction. Thus, the tray does not close properly, the internal sensor recieves no 'closed' message within a specific time, and the tray opens.

My dvd can not read

Hi frodrigue328,
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
2.Check the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.
Hint : 50% of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.
If the above steps didn't cure the problem, high chance that your optical lens was faulty.

If you can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the symptom.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.
