sounds like the imager is bad, if you can see the menu thats good news. open and reseat all the ribbpon cables conneected to the lcd

Well actually it charges while plugged in even when running. but yes not draining it all the way and then charging it fully will decrease the batteries life. So they will not last as long if you take care and charge them properly. Durabrand is actually a walmart brand, made only for walmart. These dvd players are actually outsourced through Lennox. Here is the warranty info you can still have it repaired if it is out of warranty as stated:

You could try and contact them for a new battery but their are alot of rip off reports because of no way to contact them. Thats what you run into with these "low price" brands. Unfortunately you save money right away and it will cost you in the long run.

You will need a better part number. What you have is the item number. Trw a Radio Shack, Battery Warehouse or some place like that. Take the bad one with you.

Take your DVD player down to a local repair shop or Radio Shack. They will be happy to sell you a universal charger for your device. I picked up a iGo universal power adapter awhile back at Radio Shack. I think it is great, it automatically configures the power needed to the device, you just need to by the correct plug/tip. The advantage is that you can buy tips for your other electronic devices so you can have one charger do it all. They are not too expensive and since you can use it for other devices it makes it well worth it. There are other models that are available and cheaper too, so shop around. The reason you want to take the device AND the charger is so the salespeople can get all the info from the devices (like plug/tip type and size as well as polarization) to be sure you get exactly what you need.

is durabrand gonna replace  the 709 with a blue wave  w/o cost to the customers who bought the 709?

Ususally the model number s located in the battery compartment or on the bottom of the player.  Check ebay for an adapter.  Usually you can find an adapter that is universal for all durabrand dvd players.

The cheapest way to fix this would be to take it to an electronics repair shop. They would be able to repair it for the fraction of the price of a new power pack. It would only cost about 10-20 Austalian dollars to fix this problem.
