Cant instal win xp on dell xps 700 help pls
1.) Insert Bootable CD.
2.) if not booting up, go into the Bios and change the bootable device list to list the CD or DVD drive first
3.) Disk should boot, if not then you have a problem with your CD (try another) or the CD/DVD Drive is not working properly.
Dell xps 700 turns on once power cored is plugged in?
The turning on when plugged it in ...is caused by a bios setting ..Im not sure how it is named..but I will take a look and post a comment ..but it is something on the ac setting page in BIOS ..It basically related with restarting when power is out for a few moments ..I think is called ac sensitive ..or so ..It can be disabled...and the fastest way is to get to bios settings ..and choose the optimal factory defaults..It should not do that by the factory settings ..so it will be disabled..Save the changes with F10 when you finish ..or if this is not available ..choose to save changes in the way out ..(this is a standard for dell ) Ill be back with the exact name of the function causing this ..
Got a amber light on

Dell XPS 700 will not
It may be a case of not detecting the booting hard disk ..If the hard disk is on sata bus...it may have the ahci function enabled..and no driver for it ..In this case will try to boot and will give a blue screen with some memory issues on it and a lot of zeros displayed ..The action to be made is to go to BIOS settings ..and look for the hard disk into the devices..(usually they are displayed on the first tab ) In there under the hard disk ..take a look and see if there is anything named AHCI enabled ..or raid enabled..This will also cause this if there is no raid driver installed ...basically will not see the hard disk but in BIOS ..If you find the ahci function under the controlers...(ahci means advanced host controller interface ) you need to disable it ..and select to run sata as ide..or ide compatible ..mode..and save the changes with F10 and exit..IN this point ..if the operation system is functional .the system will boot right the way ..There is another possibility ..that the operation system was corrupted beyond recovery and need to be reinstalled..This may be the cause for it not to boot ..and in this case..you need either a recovery disk .and engage it and select to reinstall operation system completely , or a boot-able disk with a operation system image on it .and the action si to boot-up from the disk ..by selecting the disk drive as primary boot device in BIOS ..or press F12 on start (or any key is pointed on screen at the start for to enable the boot menu ) and from the menu select boot from the dvd ..and will load the operation system again ..You will need all drivers for devices..and also programs you use to have ..last possible cause..the hard disk is gone ..and need to be changed..But this is not something happening often and if it already happened to you twice ..you may think for the cause..It may be something wrong with the way you use it ..or the power supply you use may have something and burn them down..(or the cooling system ..It may be just a close system ...and not having enough coolers..or air way s..and overheating them to death )let me know what you've managed to do ..and how it is behaving ..and I will think what else need to be done..
Can't intall windows vista in
Even if I think it is not teh case..i suggest to check the ram memory ..and see how much you have installed on your system ..remember that for windows Vista the minimum required is !G of ram ..and a CPU ..with speeds over 1,5 G ..(which is not teh case cause this one came with a fast cpu ) ..But the ram may be the issue ..cause on standard configuration ..it may have only 512 M of ram on ddr2 667 , and in this case will not be capable to run VISTA or windows 7 ..You actually need to upgrade the ram memory by adding at least 1G of ram ..and be sure it will run well ..(adding just a 512 will make it work but will be slow on vista..Vista is known for demanding more resources than any operation system ..I suggest if you upgrade ram memory ..to go right for windows 7 ..This way you will eliminate some speed issues..cause windows 7 is faster ..)Another thing that may be ..is the space ...To install windows Vista or windows 7 ..you need at least 15 G of space free in the C drive ..where you want to install it ..otherwise will refuse the operation ..and stop the install process..If you do have the space ..and teh ram memory needed..but just the partition is made too small ..I suggest to back -up files you need and can not recover from other places..and during installing ..format all drive ..by choosing advanced hard disk options ..and delete all partitions ..and make a large C drive ..(at least 40 G ) ..and the rest as you want..format C drive and install the OS ..The rest of the partition just create them ..cause it is possible to format them in windows.By the way .for to be able to do all these you need to start the installing from a boot-able disk or a usb flash made boot-able with the OS on it ..cause if you run it from XP ..it will make issues..Either say you can not upgrade from xp if you run sp 1..or you can not delete the partitions if you have it active ..and running the installing from it ..So ..best way is to make a boot-able flash ..and boot from it ..by choosing it in the boot menu on start ..A boot-able disk will do the same ..let me know what exactly you have wrong ..and I will guide you through the process ...
My xps wont power down fully i have just put new
Check teh BIOS settings and default them to the factory optimal defaults. After that if it still does the same ..take a look on the first choice for the action on the start ...turn off..It may be set not to turn off..but to do something else..Another thing it may be wrong is the pin selections on the front panel ..When you changed the motherboard the location of the buttons may be changed..and if you inverse the power on ..with the restart ..this can be the case...specially if you turn it off from the button ..Also if you always turn it off from the button ..check the actions for it ..in power management ..to get there it depends on the operation system ..for windows 7 ...click right on desktop ..and select personalize..and in there select screen saver.and it will be an option for power management ..and in there somewhere will be the action for the button ..select to turn it off...It may be selected stand by or other action ..Anyway ..you should make a habit in turning off from the desktop ..just click start and turn off..or press alt +F$ and select turn off..its easy ..let me know if the issue is different and I just understood it wrong way ..
My dell xps 700 will
it could be the memory controller, which is a part of the motherboard. a memory controller error would appear as a ram issue, until you tried replacing the ram, and it still shows the error.
it is very easy to test ram. just take out all but 1 ram stick and try to boot. if it does not boot, try a different, single, ram stick. it is nearly impossible to have 2 bad sticks of ram, so if 1 of them doesnt work, then it is the motherboard's integrated memory controller.
I had a issues with my power supply no after i
Check to make sure that everything is properly hooked up again. You hard drive may have power flowing too it, but it may not be hooked up to the motherboard and reading properly. Just check to see if everything is properly hooked into the right spots. If it is, make a comment on this letting us know and I'll see if I can figure it out from there.
I hope this helps.
My dell xps 700 unbootable
The error code you posted corresponds to component failure..
What you need to do is unhook the power cable from the tower n remove the memory , all the cards n the cd drive... now put the memory back in n start the system {without the cd drives or cards... except video card if u dont have onboard graphics... }. Now if the system starts then switch it off again n start connecting components one by one till you find the faulty component... if this method doesnt help then you better go ahead n call up the tech support n get a service technician

Dell error code 2000-0142
Any error code for a hard drive isn't good, and should be reason to get a new one right away. So long as the drive is still able to be accessed, you have a chance of retrieving your data. There are free utilities to help you 'clone' the data to a new drive, but you may want to ask a tech-minded friend for help if you've never done it before. It sounds like the drive isn't dead yet, but is definitely on its way out. Good luck!
